A New Finneran Sponsor?
by Brian Maloney, March 15th, 2007 at 03:33pm
A North Shore- based SaveWRKO reader sends this note:
Heard a clip of Finneran talking about WRKO ‘partnering’ with Bob’s Stores– I quickly turned it off (and washed my hand)–didn’t hear what it was about.
How about letting us know how to contact Bob’s (TJX is the parent company) directly to protest their involvement with a convicted felon (crime being race-based discrimination, no less).
I can’t find an email address direct to corporate headquarters, only a snail-mail address and phone number. If we do call, how do we find the best person to whom to direct our comments ??
Keep up the good work.
Any ideas or additional information from our readers?

Forgive me for asking, does all this business regarding the sponsorship really matter?
Sponsors are paying money to be heard by those who are listening to the broadcast. If you’re not listening, it’s not as if they were paying for your attention to begin with.
If enough people (enough people to matter) aren’t listening, then that ad time will drop in value, causing sponsors to either look elsewhere, or give the station far less money. And as stations depend on ad revenue, I imagine they’d be pretty sensitive a devaluation of their ad slots.
Personally, as a consumer, it’s too much work to listen to a show that I don’t particularly want to, just to take note of the sponsors, and then have to remind myself not to patronize them, and find alternatives. Way too time-consuming for something that really doesn’t matter…
(And in the remote chance that someone floats the idea, I don’t work for RKO. Hell, I barely listen any more.)

Excuse me, but this is a free country, and you have no right to interfere with someone’s livelyhood because of their political speech.
That’s censorship, and the last time I checked, we don’t have it in this country. Tom F. can and should excercise his free speech, and no one can harm him or his sponsors for using his constituttional rights.

Lied, WRKO listeners have every right to boycott Finneran’s sponsors if they so wish. It happens all the time.

Lied said “That’s censorship, and the last time I checked, we don’t have it in this country. Tom F. can and should excercise his free speech, and no one can harm him or his sponsors for using his constituttional rights.”
It’s so sad that you lack basic reasoning skills and misinterpret the Constitution of the United States.

Lied, I don’t see where the interference is. People have as much right to complain/boycott/badmouth Mr. Finneran as he has to express his political views. That’s freedom of speech. A free and open exchnage of ideas. Now, if we were expecting him to be jailed for his ideas (let’s forget about his actions for the moment), I can see where your comment would be warranted.
Besides, by your reasoning, wouldn’t forcing the dissenters to curtail their beliefs and opinions be censorship as well?
