Howie Undermined Again

by Brian Maloney, April 5th, 2007 at 04:09pm

Yet again, Howie Carr’s show has been undermined internally, with the veteran WRKO host now increasingly vocal in his frustration with station management.

Today, instead of hearing Carr’s show streaming online, listeners were subjected to network sports programming. As this has become a regular problem at WRKO, we hope Howie is able to get answers as to what’s behind this effort to ruin his show.

Meanwhile, Carr has taken to slamming station management on the air. Has he reached the boiling point?

Howie has pretty much slammed station management with the whole Finneran deal (the practice of hiring a felon) and he’s complained about streaming woes and sports pre-emptions before, but when he said “Entercom happens!” (as it “excrement happens”), you can tell he’s really getting
frustrated. Apparently the problem was fixed
    later though…

the web streaming isn’t just for when there’s a game on (today, the game was actually on WEEI).
There are people in far-flung areas who want to hear Howie’s show, plus people in office
buildings that can’t pick up the signal, etc.
I will say that the WNTK stream tends to be
a bit overmodulated and slightly distorted but it has NEVER failed to be on. As mentioned in another thread, several people have accessed it, frustrated with WRKO’s stream problems.

    Give me a break, Brian.
The game was on WEEI today.
If you’re going to make up stuff about WRKO, at least make it seem genuine.

Maybe Greater Media (WTKK) can put up an offer for him come contract time…though I don’t know where he could go in the schedule

da Captin’ needs to do something about this. If for no other reason than to give the appearance of not having become part of the corruption he claims to be against. Could it be Howie has sold out? Did the management at WRKO break him? I wonder how many large he’s getting to be a good boy for them? Maybe they paid him in tah-tah sauce? Who would have figured that Howie has become part of the propaganda machine of the Deval / MA. political machine?

‚ÄúSay it ain’t so [Capin]‚Äù You must know about and read this blog. Do the right thing.

Entercom pays Howie more money than God or anyone else would pay him. Not only do I doubt he is going anywhere, I suspect that he is privately pleased that WRKO is back on the map again. The indignation is part of the show.

I doubt Howie will quit but I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes his show elsewhere once his contract is up. That is unless WRKO throws Howie under the bus once his contract is up first.

If TTK is smart, they will start thinking about adjustments to their lineup now…and grab Howie when his contract expires!

    >>If TTK is smart, they will start thinking about adjustments to their lineup now…and grab Howie when his contract expires!

    hmm:
Eagan and Braude in the Morning
    Michael Graham at 10
    Howie or Jay at noon
    Jay or Howie at 3…

btw speaking of Entercom, since WAAF’s ratings haven’t really increased with the simulcasting of the station on WKAF (97.7) you wonder if
maybe WRKO’s talk could move to 97.7 or
simulcast there and you’d have a fairly powerful FM signal (from Great Blue Hill)
to do “FM talk, Entercom style”. Naaah,
I don’t think it would happen (and the signal
would have some holes), but… :)

    THE FELON AT FENWAY

My good friend Jason Wolfe (he MUST be, I keep getting emails from him–but maybe that’s just because I’m on the WRKO mailing list…and WTKK’s, and WKLB’s…) tells me: “Tomorrow At Game On! 82 Lansdowne Street Tom Finneran will be broadcasting his show Finneran‚Äôs Forum LIVE from 6AM-10AM. ”

They’re giving away T-shirts & tickets.. Feinburg will be on “until game time” (sorry Rush fans but of course the game
starts at 2 pm anyway…and sorry Howie fans, who will wind up having to find him elsewhere, his first
couple hours…oh and the game’s also on 850. Prob the last time it’ll be on 2 stations but who knows.

Would everyone who thinks that Howie Carr actually gives a damn about streaming screw-ups and that it’s not just part of his curmudgeon act please raise their hands. Anyone…Bueller…Bueller ???

    Now, don’t you feel better.

    TSB

….I doubt Howie will quit but I wouldn’t be surprised if he takes his show elsewhere once his contract is up….

Where, exactly, could he take it, especially at his salary level?

…That is unless WRKO throws Howie under the bus once his contract is up first….

Why would RKO do that, unless his numbers fell apart or he asked for so much money that the show couldn’t support it (which is unlikely since he knows he can’t get more anywhere else.)

    Howie ain’t goin’ nowhere.

    Regards,
    TSB
