GOP To Fight The So-Called Fairness Doctrine
by Matt Margolis, June 27th, 2007 at 05:58pm
Recent calls for reinstating the so-called “Fairness Doctrine” has prompted members of Congress, talk radio and blogosphere to take action. This morning, Rep. Mike Pence, R-Ind., spoke to bloggers about recent efforts by congressional Democrats to reinstate the policy. I was on the call and wrote about it here.

I’ve been saying it for a while now. The era of Bush controlling the airwaives is coming to and end! I thought we’d have to wait for Hillary or Obama, but if this Fairness law comes back, it will happen sooner.
I for one can only hope that once balance is restored to the media, and Bush stops getting a pass every night on the news, people will wake up and this country will head back to being for the common person.
And Howie and his “Bush can do no wrong” era will be done.
Thanks

There’s more than enough liberal media out there. Care to name any conservative voices on govt funded NPR?
The TV networks are mostly liberal, too…
a Fairness Doctrine would basically put a crimp on freedom of the press & freedom of speech.
It’s the power of the market. People want conservative talkers and if the libs can
put someone good on, maybe they’ll be
successful, too.
Bush is NOT getting a pass on the news by the way. Do you listen to any conservative shows? He’s
being lambasted on the immigration issue. You must not be listening too closely to Howie either because he is most definitely NOT in the “can
do no wrong” camp.
While he does say Bush was still the lesser of the two evils, he now says he’s suffering from
his own Bush Derangement Syndrome and there’s
a clip of someone saying “Bush is a nitwit”.
Have you heard Howie’s show sometime in
the past year?

Ahahahahahahaa…..
I hope that was supposed to be funny.
If not:
Howie has been off the Bush bandwagon for some time now. And do you even watch the evening news?

You are all right-wing zealots, unable to even admit the incredible bias in talk radio.
Only when we get *real* progressive talk radio will this country pull itself out of its stupor and be more like Europe and Canada. Then we can hold our heads high on the world’s stage. The French have shown us how, we need only learn from them.

Trouble is, radio stations have to make money and even if prog talk got back on the air in Boston, how could they sell ads with a constant
“big business is eeeeevil” attitude?
I thought liberals were willing to tolerate
different viewpoints. Conservatives are able
to succeed in talk radio, and with some
effort maybe libtalk could, too. Why are you
blaming the failure of libtalk radio on
the conservatives who KNOW HOW TO DO IT?
Besides there’s plenty of left-leaning media
for you out there.
Would you like the Fairness Doctrine if
Mike Malloy and Mike Savage had to be paired
as part of a show? How about if Ann Coulter
got to co-host Olby’s show, every night?
I didn’t think so. (Actually that might HELP their ratings!!)

von Stone’s comment, “The French have shown us how, we need only learn from them”, indicates to me that his tongue is firmly planted in his cheek.

It will be a sheer joy to trample all over NPR if this ‘thing’ ever goes through.

This clown is several french fries short of a Happy Meal. “We only need to learn from the French…” Bwahahahahahaha.

come one now, we weren’t using out freedom of speech anyway. the bill of rights is just a good idea in theory. not like its law or something.

Do you see the French running around the world starting wars? Does Canada bomb innocent women and children? Does Germany not give a fig about global warming?
Those Progressive nations are what we could aspire to, *IF* the fairness doctrine were restored and talk radio listeners could hear the truth, not the right-wing zealot lies.
Think of how much better we were with Bill Clinton in charge than Dick Cheney.

Good column on all this in today’s Herald,
by Howie Carr. By the way, Senator Kerry,
we’re still waiting for you to once and for
all prove that the Swift Boat guys were wrong.
