Scott Allen Miller: “WRKO is done.”
by Matt Margolis, July 10th, 2007 at 08:30pm
Former WRKO morning drive host, Scott Allen Miller, has chimed in on Howie Carr’s departure from WRKO to WTKK. Scotto predicts, “Within a year, WRKO will no longer be a news/talk station,” I have to agree with him.
Here’s a bit more:
For many years, Howie Carr has been the tent pole that held up WRKO. Howie’s show brought in most of the station’s revenue. We’re talking about millions of dollars. Those millions of dollars just packed up and drove to Morrissey Boulevard. No one — not me nor anyone else — can fill that void and immediately recoup those losses. It would take years and a long-term marketing investment to build a show as successful as Howie’s. Entercom’s shareholders don’t have that much time to wait or that much money to invest.

I agree, Scotto, RKO is cooked. Who’s left? The Felon? Screechy liberal Mariellen Burns, who doesn’t dare say a bad word about her former hack employers…in case she wants to go back someday? I used to like Todd, but now he thinks screaming makes for good radio…doesn’t matter what he’s screaming about. Great move, Howie - see you on the FM band!!

WRKO makes a ludicrous claim when it calls itself THE talk station when it broadcasts more than 100 baseball games a year, and more than 81 Celtics games.
The real talk station is 96.9fm. If Howie leaves, WRKO is dead in the water.
