D & C Weekend Speculation Continues
by Brian Maloney, September 9th, 2007 at 12:04pm
At this point, what’s the point of the near- nonstop speculation over Dennis & Callahan’s future on WEEI? Of course they’re coming back, they have no choice.
What’s fuelling the fire are the many insider reports coming from those close to the talks, which apparently continued into the weekend.
In my view, the only oddity here is that Entercom CEO David Field is said to have directly taken over the previously- stalled negotiations.
Here’s how it will play out:
1. D & C will agree to Entercom’s terms, if they haven’t already
2. D & C will return as soon as tomorrow, no later than the end of this week
3. A press release making no mention of Field’s “secret” role will be sent out to the Boston papers and radio trade publications, giving full credit to Empress Kahn and Coffee Boy for “convincing” the pair to return
4. Radio trade publications and the Boston Globe will accept Entercom’s press release at face value without any critical analysis
5. A major face-saving campaign will get underway for all of the parties involved, especially Entercom as a whole
Let’s see how close to the mark this proves to be. We’ll know soon enough.
UPDATE: WOW, did I peg this one!

It’s a deal…Boston Sports Media reports,
with Entercom confirmation, that Dennis
and Callahan return tomorrow with a five
year deal. Details tomorrow.

“UPDATE: Entercom spokesman, George Regan - reached at the Meadowlands where he was taking in the Pats-Jets game - confirmed to Shots, shortly after 3 p.m. on Sunday, that both Dennis and Callahan will return for Monday’s 6-10 a.m. shift and that an announcement on the deal will be made following the show. (No word from Regan whether the deal was consummated during a walk on the beach.)”

Brian,
You are the best — certainly got this one spot-on. Meanwhile, I just can’t believe these 2 are top dogs on the morning scene?! Howie Carr on 96.9 will certainly eat their lunch, as these two are morons.

Psst… you didn’t hear it here, but J & J brought D & C to heel, that’s for sure. It’s downright embarrassing. Returned with their tails between their legs, the whole bit.
Remember, Brian, don’t tell anyone that good ol’ John MP is your mole. I’d be out on my skinny arse right quick if D & C or J & J found out.

To paraphrase Dan Rather speaking to Bernie Goldberg: I haven’t listened for the past several months; I didn’t listen today; and I won’t listen tomorrow.
