Scott Allen Miller Takes New Radio Gig
by Aaron Margolis, October 18th, 2007 at 12:55pm
Scott Allen Miller, the former morning show host on WRKO who was slighted for Tom Finneran, has announced on his blog, the Scotto Bloggo, that he has accepted a job offer to be the Program Director and morning show host on AM 590 WROW in Albany, NY.
This is just a tremendous opportunity for me. I am already very familiar with the market having worked at WROW’s main competitor before coming to WRKO in September 2003.
[...]
Albany listeners really “get” talk radio. They always have politics on their minds, they just elected an incompetent governor, and a carpetbagger is using their state to run for President. Now that I think of it, Albany is a lot like Boston.
Another reason why this is such a great opportunity is as program director I will be able to help shape the direction of the station as a whole. Talk stations that have a program director who is also a host have become increasingly rare finds. Program directors don’t tend have as much independence to program stations as they used to, either. At WROW, I will be part of a team, of course, but will play a lead role in setting the course of the entire station.
And:
If all goes according to plan, I will be on the air in Albany on Monday morning around 6. (Yes, WROW does stream online.)
Congratulations to Scotto on the new job! Best of luck to you.

Ditto Jimbo’s comment - you were a class act - too bad RKO wasn’t!

I told you all my schtick “plays” better in backwater towns like Springfield, MA and Albany, NY!
I mean, Albany is still a place that values faux Latino and faux Indian accents, and I was voted best faux Latino accent 3 years running in Kansas City!
That, plus my carrying water for the DNC and Big Labor should win me friends in NY.
Alas, in the past this has merely meant more abysmally low ratings, but what the heck. This beats my BK drive-thru gig by a long shot!

Congratulations Scott.
And the band played on. Who have we lost over the past few years?
Howard Stern
Howie Carr
John DePetro
John Batchelor
Spencer Hughes
Don Imus
We are left with Dim Bulb has beens in Stern’s old slot, Status Quo politicians and hack reporters carrying water for the establishment everywhere else. This sucks.
Serious question Brian: How long can WRKO management hold on given that at least theoretically the shareholders are going to be P.O.’d?

Your boy “Scotto” has his work cut out for him: WROW hasn’t been able to achieve full power for several weeks, the news readers (male AND female) sound as if they’ve been inhaling helium, and what time is news on during “Mike and the Mad Dog” — I’ve heard news at 2:55, 3:12, 4:22— there is NO continuity! The moment the old PD was out the door the station collapsed technically! It’s a cheesey rubber-band operation! Vandenburgh is opening up his new station with “phasers on full power” - Scotto is preceived in this market as “the guy who came after J.R. (Gach) was gone”
