WTKK: Digging In With Current Lineup?
by Brian Maloney, October 29th, 2007 at 01:28pm
Now finally close to unveiling its redesigned website, WTKK appears to be digging in for the long haul with its current lineup and Howie Carr is nowhere in sight.
Unfortunately, it’s the court system that has forced this upon the station, but status quo even in the short term seems only likely to exacerbate the station’s already-painful ratings decline.
The current lineup has already been thoroughly rejected by the marketplace, so why maintain it? This is one stubborn media market.

Off topic, but it’s annoying how all the Entercom defenders try to spin Howie’s legal setback as a big victory for Entercom. Remember, all Entercom had to do was exercise its option to renew Howie’s contract by March 19, 2007. There was no excuse for management’s failure to do so, and, at a normal company, the persons responsible would have been fired. Can you imagine a Fox News manager keeping his job if he inadvertently failed to exercise an option in Bill O’Reilly’s contract?
I’d like to see Howie’s appellate brief. I think it’s arguable that WRKO did not match WTKK’s offer if it didn’t offer Howie the morning show. Nor does it seem reasonable that Howie, in July, should have predicted exactly what provisions of the contract van Gestel would find illegal in late September, and conduct his WTKK negotiations accordingly.

are you telling me that our mid-morning choices for the forseeable future are:
1) Moonbat O’Brien/Senator Bob;
2) The View on WEEI;
3) Oprah with a horrible Boston accent
Good grief! This is going to turn me into a Glen Beck fan really quickly….

Herald: A state Appeals Court judge today forbid Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr to take over the morning drive show at WTKK (96.9) while his battle to free himself from his contract with WRKO drags out in court. [...]

There are very few bright spots on WTKK’s lineup these days…
Michael Graham is VERY good. He’s smart, funny and a good AM drive time listen.
Michelle McPhee has a voice that could shatter glass. Not anywhere near smart or articulate enough to be anything more than an occasional guest.
Egan and Braude are unlistenable. Liberal and Radical Liberal do not make a winning formula. Jim, please go back to trying to screw the working class at TEAM (Tax “Equity” Alliance of MA). Marjory, please go do whatever it is you do when you’re not slinging liberal BS on the radio.
Jay Severin is ok. He’s smart. And he’s articulate - to a fault. He has this really annoying habit of saying the same thing several different ways in a row, all in a condescending voice.
Jay, just make your point and move on. We’re the “best and brightest”. We got it the first time. And I get that you’re heterosexual - that’s great. But enough about banging the bridesmaids. You’re trying WAY too hard.
And let me say for the record, if you ever spoke to my wife or daughter in person with the sleazy sexual innuendo you use on the show, I would cheerfully punch your lights out.
Then WTKK gets into the syndicated shows - O’Reilly is good and Laur Ingraham is GREAT.
I could alway listen to Monica Crowley, but she has a very short stint on the weekend lineup.
So there you have it. The bright spots in this writer’s opinion come down to Michael Graham and the syndicated shows.
Howie would have been a real coup, but that’s not going to happen. My advice for WTKK management is to start developing local talent FAST.
You really need to pay attention to the farm team, or the whole station will come crashing down around your ears - and you’ll become the next WRKO.

Got to LOVE the new Michelle McPhee pic on the new eb page! Although I do miss the halter top. Maybe they can post a few pics on her page, hopefully showing us her tatoo!

“You really need to pay attention to the farm team, or the whole station will come crashing down around your ears - and you’ll become the next WRKO.”
WTKK ASPIRES to be WRKO - tried to get the Sox, nope, tried to get Howie, not looking good…they would probably love to get Limbaugh, but that is unlikely to happen too.
Both of these stations are in dire need of help, but even with the FM advantage, WTKK can’t seem to get any traction, which I think might have been the original point of this post…

Anyone that ends calls with either “You Rock” or “Go Sox” needs to go.
McPhee wouldnt be bad from 1-4pm on Sundays….

Michael Graham is unlistenable. Should go back down south from whence he came. And if he castigated SC as he puts it to us in MA his life wouldn’t be worth a plugged nickel.
Listen to WRKO in this time slot. (Please bring back Imus)
I agree that Michelle needs to work on her voice but she loves the city and is knowledgable about it and it shows. She is getting better. She has substance most of the time.
Jim and Margery are GREAT!!!! They fit together like hand and glove. Most of the time they are very substantive. And sometimes they are silly. Always fun to listen to.
Jay just goes on and on and on and on. He just loves to listen to himself speak. Sometimes I will listen, most of the time I won’t. And isn’t he married with a child? I think everyone is aware of that so who does he think he’s kidding?
The rest of the night is a WASTE OF TIME!!!!

kkj=moonbat. The Philadelphia lawyer(Jim) and the spokeswoman for chronic rosacea(Margery) are both lefty loon twits who reek of Trust Fund Boomerism. I wish those 2 nitwits had been staying in SLA flophouse that LAPD incinerated back in May of ‘74…
