WRKO To Cover Hack Breakfast Live
by Brian Maloney, March 6th, 2008 at 07:27pm
Via the Herald, WRKO is apparently going to broadcast this year’s hack breakfast live for the sake of the seven or eight listeners who might want to hear it.
This is a great way for The Felon to suck up to his Beacon Hill buddies and get paid (and fed) at the same time.
It’s also a terrific reminder of how Entercom is still far more interested in serving corrupt politicians than what remains of WRKO’s listenership.

Brian,
What a great site! Thanks for hosting this. I’m a long time listener of TRadio and just found your site.
Can’t believe that MMcPhee is still on the air. Please Please stop… I can’t stand the shrillness.
Really miss the likes of JWilliams. Listened to him since back in the 60’s when he was on WBZ for 6 hours a night before Larry Glick. It was my first clock radio when I was 12 or so.
Can’t we do better than J.Severin too? His show is predictable and uninteresting. Where is David Brudnoy or Gene Burns or even Avi Nelson when we need them.
Please keep up the good work.
All the best,
aListener

The usual Bull____?
Felon Finneran will be right at home!

It’s like WRKO is living in Bizarro World!!!
These stupid programming decisions just keep coming!! There’s GOTTA be a secret agenda behind the scenes! They’re boldly and deliberately destroying the radio station with crap like this! As Jerry Williams would say, “They’re all in the tank!” Listeners and advertisers are fleeing to other media, and RKO bosses blame it on “tough economic times”…or George Bush!!
The crazy Democrats have taken over the radio station, and they keep proving day after day that they don’t know how to program a Talk station. They’re broadcasting to themselves!!!
And THEY think it’s great!! But the station’s not making any money!! BRILLIANT!!!
Hey…David Field…WAKE UP!! Be a HERO and fire Kahn and Wolfe! They cannot justify their bloated salaries! (Isn’t that why Julie fired Moe Lauzier?)

avi nelson is a dick. In fact anyone that disrespects true republican libertarians is. Who needs that constitution anyways?
I miss Gene Burns.

I agree with almost everyting you offer as proof that WRKO is an amateur operation. However, I have to disagree with you on this one. It makes perfect sense for WRKO to broadcast a long term, popular, political “Boston” event like this. Who cares if they’re hacks, it’s still good content.

Any other convicted felons in the hall that day? Just has to be. I think a case could be made that The Felon will have violated his probation by consorting with other felons. I think a raid is in order.
Also the police should be chalking tires outside and pulling those cars over afterwards with camera crews doing the ride-alongs.
What a sham this “breakfast” is. Hacks patting themselves on the back for what exactly?
Any respectable talk-show would be on the outside pointing out the waste, fraud and hypocrisy. Not the Felon though, he’ll have his wrko knee-pads on and whole jar of Burt’s lip therapy.
9. Finne-Fan | March 7th, 2008 at 8:44 am
I need to stop expecting objectivity from such a biased blog site… it’s my own fault. The breakfast is what it is, but it IS a news event, on a Sunday, with little else going on. It makes total sense for WRKO to air the event. Would you pefer the best of Claprood and Whitley? (now there’s an oxymoron).
10. WBZ Listener | March 7th, 2008 at 10:32 am
So what should we infer about WBZ, who carried this event for at least the last few years. Were they in the bag and now they finally wised up, or did the event jump the shark simply because it now airs on WRKO? And what of WLVI, who I’ve seen air it on TV last year?
Also, this event has traditionally been well sponsored, so could it be that the gang of incompetents has somehow hit on another moneymaker? Wow, they just keep dodging bullets.

The only thing more disturbing than hearing the Felon, perjorer, bigot, hack, and all around scumbag give the verbal reacharound to all of the Dem hacks on WRKO is the orgy of mouth love that is the annual St Patricks Day Breakfast.
Is there anything more mortifying to this state than embracing its corrupt lineage? Or to listen to a bunch of self serving 2nd tier hacks lavish praise upon each other? Or tacitly admit thier guilt in double entendres? It makes me throw up in my mouth. The entire disgrace should be done away with. To quote a user on another site, whose name currently escapes me - Massachusetts - The State The Other 49 Laugh At. This is why.
12. Dave | March 7th, 2008 at 11:23 am
Let’s hope that one of the hacks manages to work into their routine a line about ’spackle and paste’.
13. BostonVernon | March 7th, 2008 at 12:51 pm
Dear BostonVernon,
Thank you for inquiring what we are trying to do at WRKO. After an exhaustive review of the failure of Air America our enlightened smarter than you team of elitist liberals came to the obvious conclusion. Air America failed because it was a “new” network, WRKO will succeed where AA failed by slowly changing the programming to reflect what “we” know to be best. Also keep in mind that our listeners are to stupid to know how to change the dial. We will continue to use Rush and Howie for now, and look forward to a humilating way to be rid of them. All you have to do to prove it is working is go over to the savewrko.com site and read the comments. They ARE listening. If they listen to the our beloved Tom Fingering than they will LOVE the Saint Patrick’s day breakfast.
It was great to see you and BostonBuffi at the club last week. Be well and remember think green and without Hillary all is lost.
Ta Ta for now,
RKO Station Mamager

Ha–see the post by “James” in the Herald article: ” Jason if you want me as a guest on the show, all you have to do is ask my brother for the number!”
One year when Bill Weld was around they joked about how Whitey won the lottery. He sang to Billy,
“We’ve got a gift for you this year, you see/ Your winning ticket in the lottery/ You’re gonna be a
millionaire, there is…no…doubt/ For I had YER BROTHER pick these numbers out!”
Great jokes like, “What do you call a wanderin’ priest?…A roamin’ Catholic!”

I still listen to Howie’s show via in the Internet from San Francisco and sadly, he seems a shell of his former self. But then the whole station is a shell of its former self. Guess they need to pay for broadcasting all the Red Sox games. Bet the Red Sox are soooo happy to have their games on a station that sucks now.
And yes, Gene Burns is still good radio and no, you can’t have him back!
16. Bob | March 7th, 2008 at 1:55 pm
Nah….Entercom got it wrong…again!
HOWIE CARR should be broadcasting live from the hackarama St. Patty’s Day breakfast!!! THAT would be worth listening to!!!!
17. Jack Sprat | March 7th, 2008 at 2:19 pm
Awwwww forget them. WCRN in Worecester is broadcasting the Spring training games!!!
Go Sox!
18. joy | March 7th, 2008 at 2:36 pm
i admit a soft spot in my heart for this high holy hack holiday (evactuation day / st paddy’s day)
after all, it’s the biggest beer goggle day of the year so a pseudo-large-marge like me can get some action!
to each his / her own!
19. Lexi3130 | March 7th, 2008 at 3:48 pm
Finne-Fan, I must disagree! I don’t consider this hack-a-rama a news event. I tend to think that since you’re a felon fan and believe this is a news event you are a hack or a hack wanna-be. Personally, I’d rather have a couple of root canals with out anesthesia than listen to those hacks bloviating!
Talk about an oxymoron - a Finne-Fan visits the “Save WRKO” Blog. ;o
20. ThinListen | March 7th, 2008 at 5:20 pm
hey… what happened at 5:17? howie was sayin somethin about a felon and taking pics with ___ and they dumped it !!!
another de-balling event.
…love the blog
21. Lisa | March 7th, 2008 at 5:21 pm
Didn’t know where else to put it… Howie just said he wore an “I’m not a felon” T-shirt today and said he was going to put his arm around someone and have his photo taken but that person doesn’t work there anymore.
Anyone know who he means? Is Finneran history?
22. the real Barbara | March 7th, 2008 at 6:59 pm
I was listening at 5:17 and heard dead air during Howie’s comment about taking pictures with………….this seems to be happening on a regular basis,,,,lots of dumping going on during Howie’s show……it’s been going on for about 2 weeks, when it first happened I thought we lost power or perhaps Boston lost power but no, it seems some of what Howie says is not aired………interesting,,,,,I doubt the felon has been dumped….afterall he does produce “excellent radio” why would coffee boy or the empress dump him?
23. Jim from Boston | March 8th, 2008 at 6:57 am
Hi Barbara,
I once heard a peculiar censorship of “Talking Religion,” on a Sunday morning at 6:00 AM in November of 2006. Soon after John DePetro and his producer Jim Kiesling were canned, the host of TR was signing off with her usual farewell, thanking the panelists as well as the producer for his technical support. Jim’s name was actually seamlessly blanked from the tape. If I were to quote it, the statement sounded like, “…and thanks to ‘__’ for his technical assistance.” I thought this was like something out of a totalitarian regime. You’ve got to give them credit for being thorough in clearing the slate. How many people would worry about listeners at 6:00 AM on Sunday?
24. Lisa | March 8th, 2008 at 7:20 am
Barbara,
I haven’t heard dead air as I am accessing the show on live streaming. It’s obvious from Brian’s newest post that it wasn’t Finneran. I can tell you that he never said a name but the felon comment certainly made it sound like Finneran, obviously it’s not.
In general, Howie has been waxing nostalgiac a lot - he had on Barbara from CLT the other night snd said he felt Jerry Williams’ presence. He’s mentioned Moe a few times and he has been promoting the writers of the new book on Jerry.
He’s also been calling himself Cap’n Spackle which is definitely a nod to this site. So either Howie visits here or someone close to him does.

Hey Barbara,
PS: Bill Kelly’s Senior Safe Money Strategy Program is so sucessful that it’s scheduled for three hours this Saturday morning, but unfortunately they cut out an hour of Reese rebroadcasts :-0
26. raccoonradio | March 8th, 2008 at 10:28 am
>>have his photo taken but that person doesn’t work there anymore.
Maybe Rene Marchando, fired producer of the Dale and Holley show. I heard a reference to a “Rene”
27. raccoonradio | March 8th, 2008 at 10:29 am
..or maybe Tom Shattuck was the person he
meant (see above post about him bolting to 96.9)
