Boston Herald Presses Attacked

by Brian Maloney, September 24th, 2008 at 02:31pm

If you’re wondering
why the print version of the Boston Herald was largely missing today, it’s because their presses have been attacked by vandals and badly damaged.

From The Globies:

The presses of the Boston Herald were vandalized last night when someone cut 15 conveyor belts and tampered with six sorting machines, according to a report filed with Boston police.

The newspaper notified police at 12:19 a.m. The vandalism likely occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., when the damage was discovered by an employee.

A spokeswoman for the newspaper did not immediately return a phone message seeking comment. Police did not report making any arrests.

The Herald announced in June plans to close its sole printing plant in Boston this fall and have the paper printed by two outside firms, Dow Jones & Co. and Boston Offset. The move will eliminate the jobs of 130 to 160 workers.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of one “Reese Hopkins,” aka many other names, between 3:30 and 8:30pm yesterday?

“Reese Hopkins” is the only person publicly to declare “war” on the Boston Herald, so of course he’s the #1 suspect.

Wouldn’t this be exactly what he’d make the front page for, something stupid that hurts others?

Nah, not Reese. This has the fingerprints of some (as Howie would say) pinky-ring-wearing-union-thugs resentful at the loss of jobs.

Like any good lib, I abhor violence and mayhem (unless, or course, it’s done to support my side).

Case in point: remember when Romney challenged Teddy for Senate all those years ago? It was very close until the debate in Faneuil Hall - when some gassed-up pinky-ring boyos slashed tires, broke signs, and generally man-handled and bullied and intimidated the Romney supporters into submission. Ted won going away after that.

Yes, good old Ron Borges made a smart move in jumping from weei.com (the ‘Interweb,’ to those of his ilk) to the Herald. This smart and greatly analyzed move was made after less than a month. Yes, good old Ron is an Einstein. No doubt about that.

Just another reason why most of the “non-union” population does not support unions.

-Joe, I’m no detective, but I think that makes for 130 better suspects than Reese Hopkins. Give it a rest.

-Chris, I agree that the Herald and its ilk are being run out by the “interweb”, but the weei.com gig was only a PT freelance thing and the Herald job is FT, so I’m not sure I blame Borges for rejoining the ink stained wretches.
