REPORT: Opie & Anthony Canned In Boston Media Still Covering For Dems In Distress

Throwing Braude Under The Motorcade

by Brian Maloney, December 1st, 2008 at 05:03pm

Another internal battle
is playing out on the pages of the Boston Herald, with WTKK midday talker Margery Eagan once again firing the shots at her fellow hosts.

And while it’s one thing to lob a grenade at WTKK midmorning talker Michael Graham, as she did over his Barack Obama warnings, this time Margery’s throwing her own program partner under the bus (or motorcade in this instance):

Jim Braude, my WTKK radio partner, NECN anchorman, aspiring scribe - a king of all media, in his mind, at least - has now fashioned himself the Rosa Parks of traffic citations, standing up to the man, etc., with this $375-an-hour superstar attorney Ed Ryan, former president of the Massachusetts Bar.

That’s Braude’s story, anyway.

But “Rosa” nearly caused an “international incident” in April when British Prime Minister Gordon Brown was leaving the JFK Library in a motorcade guarded by the Secret Service, sharpshooters and lots of cops. Refusing to wait in traffic like the rest of us mere mortals, “Rosa” made an illegal U-turn on Morrissey Boulevard. He drove his big black SUV (Cambridge-y hybrid, I must inject) north in the southbound lane and nearly head-on into Brown’s escort, as the Herald’s Jessica Heslam has reported. He then “demanded” a state trooper tell him what was going on.

[...]

But, in truth, this isn’t the only time “Rosa’s” gone postal with authority figures. So many incidents, so little room. But back when he was a young, Afro-haired Manhattan lawyer (does it get any more annoying?), “Rosa, Esq.” was parked illegally on Seventh Avenue. Then, in full snit, he lay down in front of the tow truck set to haul his car away. The truck operator, it should be noted, was a teeny-tiny girl. “Rosa” is 6-foot-5. After the sixth or seventh NYC cop arrived, “Rosa” told one of them, “I don’t think you’re aware, but I’m a lawyer.”

While I can’t
blame Margery for refusing to go down with Jim’s sinking ship, the problem is that she still has to sit in the same studio with this twit for 15 long hours every week. So was this worth it?

The only reasonable conclusion that can be drawn is that Margery doesn’t believe the program will last much longer in its current form.

Given how Braude has completely destroyed his public credibility with this monumentally stupid legal crusade, that may be a safe bet.

Also keeping in mind that Rush Limbaugh is now beating this show in the crucial 25-54 ratings, one can sense real “change you can believe in” now brewing on Morrissey Boulevard.

Hmmm. They joked about the towing incident for many years on their vapid radio show. Don’t think Jim will be too perturbed. I used to listen to it before I was schooled in what REAL GREAT radio is. This show ain’t it.

Braude is a biiiiiiig hypocrite just as many LIBERALS are. He almost ran me over (when he had his old-school Volvo) coming out of my town’s Dunkin’ Donuts parking lot and like a Liberal hypocrite, he was not concerned if I was ok just annoyed I got in his way. Yeah, but I “knew who he was”.

He is who he is and I detest his ideology BUT he could handle a show on his own (unlike the untalented and moronic Margery Eagan!!!) but who the hell would listen? Liberal radio doesn’t sell.

Oh, I’m glad those dopes “Opie & Anthony” are gone (like many, I didn’t even know they were here). They are creeps and why listen to such crap when one can listen to the KING…Howard Stern!

  • 2. stonecutter  |  December 1st, 2008 at 5:49 pm

Neither one has credibility, they’re a pair of “sexual intellectuals” I dream of the day we get Howie and Rush on crystal clear FM.

  • 3. WRKO Staffer  |  December 1st, 2008 at 6:59 pm

Brian, come on, can’t you smell a radio gimmick by now? Margery article is all part of it…don’t you see this?

  • 4. Chris  |  December 1st, 2008 at 8:05 pm

I know Maggie reads the comments section; she admitted doing so in her piece. That said, she looks like a SHREW.

  • 5. Brian Maloney  |  December 1st, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Staffer, normally I would be inclined to agree, but Braude’s skin is too thin to go along with this kind of “gimmick”.

This could be Margery’s way of forcing the issue, leading to a Braude blowup that brings their team to an end earlier than expected.

Otherwise, you don’t accuse your on-air partner of “going postal” unless the program is toast.

I’d like to read about more of these “incidents” involving the snot from Cambridge.

  • 7. Nhradiofan  |  December 1st, 2008 at 9:03 pm

I find Margery very attractive and I think it is nearly impossible to critique her on-air talent because of her overbearing and self-important co-host. Therefore, I will refrain from commenting on her other than to say that her voice is perfect for radio and never fails to grab my attention.

Dear “Mr. Do-you-know-who-I-am” does not get off so easily.

Jim Braude is no doubt an intelligent and well spoken man but he has that unmistakeable air of someone who knows that the Liberalism he spouts for public consumption is shot through with faulty logic and unsupportable assertions about human nature. He strikes me as someone who is far too intelligent to truly believe what he purports to believe and only holds himself out as a Liberal because that makes him acceptable to the other beautiful people in his neighborhood. The sad fact is Braude is too intelligent to be a Liberal. We are left only to assume that he is a hypocrite.

I, too, believe this is either:

    a) a publicity stunt and Braude knows all about it. Margery is so damn deferential to him on the air it makes me ill;

    or

    b) Margery, with or without consulting Braude, has seen all of the vitriol Braude’s behavior has stirred up, and decided to write the article to distance herself from him.

I couldn’t believe he had one of his Herald pics taken at NECN - seeing the logo in the background makes it look like they tacitly support his foolishness.

Then again, they probably figured - correctly - that no one’s watching them, anyway…

  • 9. Chris  |  December 1st, 2008 at 10:35 pm

Speaking of ‘no one watching NECN,’ I decided to go to the nether reaches of my cable lineup to seek out Braude on this channel to see him. I was astounded and not a bit surprised that every question he asked of his guest took a good 30 seconds to mouth, and he routinely truncated his guest’s answers so he could mount another verbose question (or, ‘nuanced’ as Braude might say). It was nauseating, and it confirmed for me why NECN is positioned in the ‘nether reaches of my cable lineup.’

    Uh-oh…

Looks like this incarnation of Two Chicks Dishing isn’t going to end any better than the previous one.

Margery really looks tired, haggard even. I think she resents that she is not aging well. Hence her frequent mentions of sexually-charged topics - trying to recharge her base, as it were. It is sad seeing women age so poorly.

Margery, we know you read this blog. It’s okay to look 60. Just act your age and it will all be fine. Promise!

This is definitely a TKK/Herald publicity stunt. Otherwise it would not be featured on the TKK website. Rosa parks was a courageous and dignified black lady whose actions helped change this country. Both moronic Marge and slimeball Braude have taken a real civil rights heroine and made fun of her repeatedly over a week’s time by comparing her brave actions to a selfish and foolish road rage incident. Where are the NAACP and the liberal press on this one? Dennis and Callahan would be pilloried if they made and wrote similar comments. Thursday Gov. Patrick will appear on their show. He was Clinton’s Civil Rights enforcer in the justice department. We see if he has the b*lls to take them on or even boycott the show. If parks were a fictional character in a movie, poking fun of her might be tolerable. But dumbie Marge could not make that distinction and has prolonged Jim’s mindless quip. Shame on them.

Margery talking about being all sexed up back in 2001 was pretty nice because she sort of was a MILF back then. Now it is getting creepy. It’s a bit like when Mae West would make all those sex jokes in her bad 1970’s films (i.e. Sexette). Anyway, I think it is sad to see that Margery probably killed a once likable show. Her role on that show was to be the reasonable everygal to Jim’s overheated blowhard. She decided to become an arrogant blowhard herself this past summer and fall when she continually lambasted callers who decided to take her on regarding her fawning over Obama (btw, I supported and voted for Obama). Margery started to as become shrill and unlikable as Jim and they would both tag team on callers who dared to disagree with them. However, Margery then started to read the blogs (such as this one) and soon came to the realization that she was now more hated than Jim. Soon she started to revert to her more agreeable self but it’s all too late. I think the show lost a lot of listeners this summer and fall and now they are attempting to pull stunts to regain interest. The fact of the matter is, the show is aging and is basically spinning its wheels now. They have became part of the establishment with their softball questions on “Ask the Governor” and “Ask the AG”. Do you think any of them will ever grill AG Martha Coakley about the deal she gave Timilty (allowing her to pay an $8,000 fine out of her own campaign funds)? I don’t think so because that would upset the golden egg they have that is brown-nosing to the big name pols (can you say “Quid Pro Quo”).

    Good Post, WRKO Staffer.

  • 15. Chris  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 10:16 am

If you were a member of the media, and you saw its entire world collapsing in front of you…radio, TV, print…would you see your best play to be an angry, rabid hater like she was to Sarah Palin, which would collect the ire of thousands of readers who instantly hated her as much as she professed to hate Palin? Or would your best play be to take a more conciliatory posture (now that your ‘guy’ is in the White House and the hated Palin has been dispatched back to Alaska)? Problem with the ‘new’ Maggie is that people will never forget the ‘old’ Maggie…the one who ripped Palin to shreds. I sincerely hope that the collapse of media wipes out people like Maggie Eagan. I hope she becomes as haggard and as destitute as ‘Fat Matt’ now is. Of course, the ‘new’ Maggie figures that hopping on the ‘attack-the-media’ bandwagon will earn her a safe haven with listeners and readers. As if!!! There are horribly bad people in media, and this recession will happily wipe many of them right off the landscape.

They were far better when they were on for one hour. Of course, anyone who followed Barnicle would sound great.

The show has become Braude saying something snyde or just plain stupid followed by Eagan giggling like a horney high school sceerleaded. Listen to the amount of minutes per hour that she is just giggling.

I also must note how often he talks down to and rushes callers, especially when he detects that the caller is smarter than he is. This technique is one he learned from Severino.

  • 17. WRKO Staffer  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 10:45 am

Pat, I would say that they were a fun, easy-going and enjoyable show when they were on for three hours “before” they were bumped down to the one hour slot. Then, when they returned to the three hours again (2-3 years ago??), the show seemed to have lost some sort of magic/chemistry.

Margery is perhaps the one who is most adrift. She seemed particularly nasty this summer and fall during the Presidential campaign shows (which is literally all they talked about for about 3 months). I heard Margery get really cruel and mean-spirited to some callers and she also began to bend and flex in all sorts of ways to defend Rev. Wright and Ayers.

I am not one of those right wing freaks who got all in a snit about Wright and Ayres, however, some callers raised legitimate points and still Margery could be very arrogant, condescending and even nasty to these callers. In the heat of the election and fawning over Obama, she lost scope of what made her previously likable to those fans on the radio. It’s too late though for her and the show. I think its days are numbered.

I have heard rumors that there are those at WTKK who are not very pleased with Margery and that those same people think Jim might be able to run the show entirely. I have no idea if this could ever become a management decision, however, it does indicate that Margery better realize that she can’t revert to her arrogant self (that may have already ruined her radio career for good).

  • 18. Celtic Frost  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 11:02 am

I think Margery gets off on listeners who stroke her (fragile) ego by complimenting her (failing) beauty / desirableness.

C’mon, Margie, your “look” has moved on from your Cougar / MILF days. Buy the Granny panties, darling, I promise they will fit.

  • 19. WRKO Staffer  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 11:15 am

Celtic Frost….everyone gets old and and haggard. Margery appears to have reached that stage. I do wonder if “Carl from NH” ever had some fun with her during her (semi) Cougar/MILF days. I know Margery would always go on and on at just how handsome he was. E&B would always feature his lame humor on the show. Maybe there was more to the story. Anyway, Margery has entered a new phase. Maybe she’ll let go and embrace the fact that she has moved from the MILF abbreviation to AARP.

  • 20. Pat Lucci  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 12:20 pm

    WRKO Staffer,

Well said in both of your posts.

That said, for a 54 year old woman who has had 2 or 3 kids, she doesn’t look bad. She is not 60 pounds overweight with thunder thighs. She doesn’t have bags under her eyes and she still has a plesant look. That said, two things she needs to do at once. First, give up clothes shopping at K-Mart, and do something with her hair that no longere involves an egg beater and a coping saw.

  • 21. Celtic Frost  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 1:33 pm

Pat Lucci, this blog needs you, mate. Please post more often… my green tea practically came up through my nose reading your coping saw jibe!

Staffer, you hit the nail on the head re: Karl from NH. Check out Karl’s web site:
    http://karlfromnh.com/

  • 22. Pat Lucci  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 1:46 pm

I had a great deal of difficulty deciding between the coping saw and a surrated fishing knife.

  • 23. WRKO Staffer  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 4:39 pm

Margery sounded a bit off today. It was almost like these blog posts are getting to her. I’d feel bad for her but she was a bit nasty this summer and maybe it is just the karma thing. On several occassions today, both Jim and Margery alluded to losing their radio gig. I think all is not well with Eagan and Braude these days.

  • 24. Antenna10  |  December 2nd, 2008 at 5:35 pm

Thank god I work all day and don’t have an opportunuity to be tempted to tune in to this NPR grade program. This little scheme to attract viewers won’t work. But I do still hope Jim tries to take his case as far as possible through the court system. Keep me laughing “wrongway Jim”!

  • 25. Al Bowlly  |  December 3rd, 2008 at 5:51 pm

I feel kinda bad about my criticisms of Margery now that everyone is doing what was done to Governor Palin. Get off of her looks (she’s a handsome woman and is aging gracefully). This is sexist and it’s radio for Pete’s sake. Have you ever though about the median weight of male talk show hosts? Probably not. Enough with the mysogyny. Stick to performance, not appearance.

  • 26. michael kariores  |  May 6th, 2009 at 3:05 pm

i listen all the time and i just put a face to the vocie of margery . great stuff you keep me listening, laughing, i love it when you stick to your guns. mostly listen on wkends reruns i think. thanks. mike @ hope house.
