Boston’s Talk Wars: Ratings Are In Howie Wins Afternoon Drive Wars, Vay Cay Jay Loses

Can We Be Forced To Consume Obamaism 24/7?

by Brian Maloney, January 15th, 2009 at 01:38am

*** UPDATE: Howie Carr reports widespread complaints from listeners regarding Verizon’s Obamist “robo-calls” ***

Yesterday, I was
all set to write a smug, self-congratulatory post regarding my tremendous wisdom in finally dumping Comcast a few weeks ago for the complete Verizon Fios package, including cable. With Comcrap now establishing an all-Obama channel, isn’t it finally time to make the switch?

At NewsBusters, P J Gladnick offers this observation on Comcast’s move:

One wonders if the Rod Blagojevich wiretap tapes will be included in the broadcasts. But what to do after the inauguration? Don’t worry, Obama fans. There is another adulatory Obama channel already operating called MSNBC where you can always get that thrill running up your leg at the mere mention of His name. From Chris to Keith to Rachel, MSNBC will never let you down in the Obama worship department.

Sadly, however, Verizon
did something yesterday that I think is far worse: it left a rambling, pre-recorded message on my home answering machine imploring me to watch his “historic” inaugural, using a tone that assumed we are all liberal Democrats and Obamists.

That’s the worst aspect of the Obama cult/fad/American Idol victory (or whatever you believe this is really about): we are all compelled to participate. Like it or not, Obama is being shoved down our throats through a daily pressure campaign that permeates every aspect of our lives. Resistance is truly futile.

Between Pepsi cans, newspapers, magazines, television, clothing, bumper stickers and just about anything and everything else, there is no escaping their Messiah’s divine image.

That’s EXACTLY how it’s done in North Korea, Turkmenistan, Venezuela, Cuba and other assorted basketcase banana republics across the globe. Is this still America?

Since the election,
Obama-as-God has certainly fueled talk radio’s fire, but will it also result in a significant revulsion by an increasing number of Americans?

Even for Barack’s supporters, isn’t there a point where this all becomes a bit too much? Why must a president be worshipped?

Their overbearing effort, however, reveals a major weakness: if Obama truly had such a lock on the American people, none of this overkill would be necessary. He’s still trying to seal the deal with a skeptical public and his supporters, including those at Comcast and Verizon, are using every tool at their disposal.

But as they begin to push much too far, the backlash could be unprecedented. Are they ready?

Don’t worry Brian, the MSM has built this guy up to god like proportions and mark my words they will tear him down when he doesn’t advance their agenda. Once the blood is in the water the MSM sharks will come in for the kill. They just won’t be as obvious as they have been with Bush. In fact one reporter is already stating that at Obama’s press conferences, reporters don’t raise their hands to ask questions because certain reporters have been told that they will be called on before the conference begins. Can you imagine the hue and cry from the MSM if Bush had done anything like that? Eventually the MSM will get irritated with Obama and then the negative stories will begin to leak out.

I disagree with subman the main stream media has stated “it will do whatever it can” to help Obiwan succseed. That will include excluding stories, questions and the “truth”.

It will continue to contribute to their demise. They are already critically close to their fan base and that is a bottom they will secure over the next four years. Only those that can survive with those ratings will. It will not rise through increased listenership since it’s the demographic that believes in killing their babies. Their only recourse is to continue indoctrination via the education system.

This I know about the 20th, I will not be near DC or any broadcast.

Do I think the level of coverage is out of hand? Yes I do. But if you have cable there are some 200-300 stations to turn to if you don’t like what’s on one. Comcast and Verizon are for profit firms and must believe this is in their best interests and that of their stakeholders or they wouldn’t do it. In this economy let everyone do whatever they deem appropriate to stay viable and vote with your remote.

As for the reality of what’s ahead, we are in for very troubling times and rather than snarking about the situation, we all need to get behind whomever is in charge and support them. I for one would rather be prosperous and gainfully employed than be able to gloat over the new administration’s failure.

Nicely put, Lisa; let’s all get behind one another and push, er, support each other! Yeah, that’s the ticket!

Need I remind this group that, 8 years ago, we progressives gave Cheney every chance as President, putting aside our distaste over not counting all the votes in FLA. Cheney proceeded to make his own bed, along with his front man Dubya. So let’s all see what my man O does before being so critical!

And speaking of Reese Hopkins, the Herald has more on that front. He sounds really, really innocent — NOT!!!!! C’mon, Bri, isn’t it time for a blog entry on ol’ Reese?

I’d say to Brian that it is time for a post on some local radio again.

I found an Obama action figure in the store. Its nose is continually pointed up, and when you pull the string all you get is ‘Uhhhhhhhhh…Uhhhhhhhh…Uhhhhhhhhh.’ Bargain bin by the time the snow melts. OK….maybe I exaggerate. By next week. What a loser we’ve got occupying the White House the next four years. Good thing ‘hating your president’ is widely accepted now.

  • 8. ChrisNH  |  January 15th, 2009 at 10:11 am

TIME Magazine just put Obama on their cover for the THIRTEENTH time THIS YEAR. That oughta sell REAL well, along with the stupid COIN COLLECTION that people will no doubt swoop in and buy with money they don’t have. What is TIME Magazine these days, nine pages long with another nine pages of advertisements?

Glenn Beck of “His Side With Glenn Back” KLAA Los Angeles has taken up Reese’ cause. Look for an op/ed in the Globe soon. I also have his cell phone if anyone would like to hear the serious problems with the case against Reese. Wendy?

    Pardon me, that’s Glenn Sacks

  • 11. the real Barbara  |  January 15th, 2009 at 10:39 am

I can’t remember which local station I was watching but their coverage of the messiah’s coronation begins SUNDAY…yeah, you’re reading right, SUNDAY……….

  • 12. Massgopguy  |  January 15th, 2009 at 10:59 am

There’s going to be one porta-potty for every 6,000 attendees to the inauguration. The Reflecting Pool is going to be turned into the world’s largest urinal.

  • 13. Jay-Z  |  January 15th, 2009 at 11:30 am

“The Reflecting Pool is going to be turned into the world’s largest urinal.”

Who needs porta-potties when D.C. itself will suffice?

  • 14. ChrisNH  |  January 15th, 2009 at 11:35 am

Wait’ll the day AFTER the coronation when His Highness realizes that he has to start DOING something. This is gonna be SO Mint watching it all unfold. ‘Uhhhhhhhh…Uhhhhhhhhh…Uhhhhhhhh…Uh-Oh.’

  • 15. Mike  |  January 15th, 2009 at 12:27 pm

Sorry, Chris. In 5 days, hating the president will be RAAAAAAAAAAACIST!!!

  • 16. Mike  |  January 15th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

    Ugh. That came out horrible….

  • 17. Mega Therion  |  January 15th, 2009 at 1:00 pm

A handful of Mandies every 10 minutes beginning tonight. I want to sleep until next Friday. With the “big holiday” on Monday, combined with Barry’s coronation…every station will seem like BET.

  • 18. Celtic Frost  |  January 15th, 2009 at 1:37 pm

ChrisNH, do you steal all your stuff from Drudge (e.g., the Time cover story) — or just most of it?

  • 19. ChrisNH  |  January 15th, 2009 at 2:20 pm

CF, getting a rise out of you is quite fun. I’ll keep it up.

  • 20. Joe from Brighton  |  January 15th, 2009 at 8:24 pm

I, too, am glad I dumped Comcast in December (finally got a bill overpayment refund check almost a month after the account was closed with Comcast), but as Fios is unavailable in my area at this time, I signed up with RCN.

No outrageous Barack *****HUSSEIN***** Obama propaganda-yet (other than carrying MSNBC on Channel 311, and WGN America-HD local Chicago newscasts on 627).

  • 21. Broadcast Please  |  January 15th, 2009 at 10:09 pm

They should have a clock on the bottom left that counts down to when 6 months are over once he assumes office - the time Obama’s running mate said it would take before Obama gets “tested” by rogues .

  • 22. verbatim  |  January 16th, 2009 at 12:36 am

Unfortunately, it’s the inverse. All companies see this as a money making opportunity. From their echo chamber, they feel everyone is ready to bow at the altar of “O”. Everyone is trying to cash in. Even Topps is selling “Obama Cards”. Including a reproduction of a 1978 style Topps basketball card featuring a Barry photo in high school in his basketball uniform.

Hi all. Jim Hughes from Comcast’s Boston office here. Just a quick clarification of what we’re doing locally — we are temporarily adding a handful of inauguration-related programs to our library of 10,000+ On Demand choices, not creating an “Obama Channel.” We often provide customers with On Demand programming related to current events. Other examples of this have been On Demand coverage of Red Sox and Celtics championship victory parades.

Personally, I can’t wait for the next eight years. Despite Bambi peeing on my front lawn, it will be greener. The milk in my fridge will last eight weeks, my car will get 35 MPG, my dog will come when I call him, that spare tire will disappear and the songbirds next to Bambi will be singing the Hallelujah Chorus. Obama will surely do for America what Deval did for Massachusetts. Hot damn, our troubles are over!
