Glick’s Passing Underscores Talk Radio’s Power Terrorist’s Aborted Visit A PR Fiasco For Boston College

Terrorist’s BC Visit Cancelled, Local Talker Claims Victory

by Brian Maloney, March 28th, 2009 at 12:13pm

With a local talker taking credit for the withdrawal, an invitation extended
to violent terrorist / Obama associate William Ayers has abruptly been cancelled.

Ayers was scheduled
to address Boston College on Monday, but two student associations were apparently notified by campus officials that it could not proceed as scheduled, according to today’s Boston Herald:

Dunn, director of public affairs, indicated he was unaware that Ayers had been invited to BC when first contacted by the Herald yesterday. Student organizers who had confirmed the speaking engagement in the afternoon called back shortly afterward to report it was canceled.

Ayers was a founding member of the violent radical-left anti-war group the Weather Underground, which was blamed for a series of bombings that killed several people. Ayers, though a fugitive for several years, was not directly implicated in those attacks. Federal riot and bombing conspiracy charges against him where later dropped, The New York Times [NYT] has reported.

Ayers figured in the 2008 presidential campaign as conservatives criticized Barack Obama for his association with the former radical.

Ayers, a professor of education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, was due to speak at Boston College on education reform and civic engagement at the invitation of Americans for Informed Democracy and the College Democrats. Ayers could not be reached last night, but before the decision was announced, he said: “This isn’t Saudi Arabia or Cuba. Speech is something we believe in in a democracy.”

Funny how the
college is pretending it was unaware of the event, given the number of emails I’ve personally received in past days. At the very least, wouldn’t they have had discussions regarding security?

As a colleague confronted
Ayers about his book dedication to RFK assassin Sirhan Sirhan, I filmed the response during a November appearance in Washington:

In person, Ayers gives
off a creepy vibe, even more so than the fringe activists I’ve encountered on the West Coast. In the clip, he abruptly changes his story, but it seems not to trouble him in the least. Why Obama would want to be associated with this sick man is difficult to understand.

In fact, I found the confrontation downright eerie, as his mannerisms and behavior are strikingly similar (if not nearly identical) to that of murdered liberal talk show host Mike Webb, a former co-worker in Seattle.

Here at home,
WTKK host Michael Graham is claiming credit for the BC cancellation. From his blog:

At 9:00 Monday morning, nobody in Boston knew Bill Ayers was coming to BC–certainly not the Schroeder family of Brighton. By 9pm last night, the listeners of 96.9 WTKK had single-handedly stopped this unapologetic advocate of violence and stupidity from disgracing the reputation of Boston College.

Claims that BC didn’t know he was coming are dubious at best (see below). Either way, William Ayers has been turned back. His decisions to start a terrorist group that would go onto to kill four people, detonate a dozen bombs against American targets and try (and, thank God, fail) to blow up soldiers at Ft. Dix–these decisions have had consequences, despite the fact that Barack Obama thinks Ayers is a great guy.

Ayers says he doesn’t regret what he did. Fine. But now he knows the people of Boston haven’t forgotten, either.

UPDATE! From the “No News Is Good News To the Boston Globe-Democrat” File: I just did a site search of the Boston Globe’s website, and I couldn’t find a single mention of the Ayers story anywhere. Hey, I guess no BC grads bother to read the Globe-Democrat. Yeah, who wants Catholic readers in Boston? Way to go, guys!

Good for Graham; the BC bums who invited this terrorist killer ought to be investigated by the FBI.

We don’t welcome a killer back to Brighton, the place where Officer Schroeder died thanks to Ayers’ comrades from Brandeis University.

    You RUBES…

Ayers is CIA. His old man was a Daley hack and had direct links to LBJ! Ayers and his wife Ohrnstein were both Agent Provocateurs.

Obama is also a CIA asset.Bush 41 RAN THE COMPANY FROM 1/76-1/77.. Clinton was as well…the last NON-CIA linked president had his head blown off in Dallas.

Let Mike soak it up — he deserves a little credit. After all, he’s the hardest working guy in Boston radio, while Jimmy Severino III is, well, not.

Come on, Jay, fess up: you go to bed laughin’ and lyin’ every night.

  • 5. piratetoby  |  March 28th, 2009 at 7:11 pm

    Softy,

Sorry. Graham gets no such pass from me. Graham’s problem w/Ayres stems from his founding a radical group from 40? years ago? The members who were guilty of the killings associated with the Weather Underground have all been tried, convicted and served time for their crimes. Ayres was NOT one of them. It’s a sad day when colleges and universities succumb to pressure instigated by nitwit radio talkers.

Free speech? Ayres’ doesn’t deserve this freedom nor do the students and faculty denied the freedom to attend? The same freedom of speech allowed Graham to make: a. hateful comments on Islam (costing him one job), 2. EXTREME comments hours after the Columbine massacre, “They were targeting minorities and athletes - which, the athletes part, (is) one minor benefit to this otherwise horrible story,” (cost him another job) and c. joking on national TV about how he’d enjoy seeing Hillary and Bill Clinton being killed “Soprano” style in response to campaign spoof? That freedom of speech?

But I’m getting away from my real point. The reason I can not stand Graham is not because of his idiotic ranting and ravings. The reason I can’t stand him is because I am totally convinced none of what he raves about he cares about. It’s all an act. As I’ve stated in the past, I can’t stand McFlea either, but will at a minimum credit her with being genuine and sincere. Not so Graham.

What pirate conveniently leaves out of his little dismissal is how Ayers went underground because while he was building a nail bomb designed to kill American servicemen and their families at a dance, it went off prematurely killing some of his fellow monsters, but unfortunately not the esteemed professor. It was only because of a botched handling of the case against these pieces of garbage by the feds that they were able to resurface. I hope he gets hit by a bus.

  • 7. Circlet Soft  |  March 29th, 2009 at 5:17 am

    Piratetoby, I like you, mate.

And we all love the first amendment.

But “freedom of speech protects us from government action in reaction to our speech and deeds, does it not? Nothing protects us from so-called “private action.”

So this Ayers/BC contretemps is not about free speech. Nor are the inane comments made by Graham (with whom I disagree 99.98% of the time, btw).

So, while I am not necessarily glad that a pesudo-major university decided to prevent Ayers from coming. But I do recognize their “right” to do so.

    Where to begin….

Softy, Sometimes my emotion takes over my brain. Listening to a portion of Graham’s show the morning of the BC thing, was his tirade on free speech.

ADot, Yeah, there is one Yale alumni who will be waaaaay too busy for any public speaking, unless, of course, his writing skills mirror his reading skills. “My Twelve Toughest Decisions” or as Jay Leno calls it, “Zero and Twelve”. Let’s hope Cheney doesn’t get his grimy paws on it to “proof read”. I can not help but wonder what in the hell he’s gonna write? What will he have to say upon reflection, and no longer in office?

And Sorenson, Acknowledging Graham with Namaste? Please! That is pure sacrilege. Besides, I’m sure Graham hasn’t a clue as to the meaning.

Do me a favor all. Take a look at Graham’s staff photo…..remove the little blue blazer and imagine him with a brightly colored hat with bells on the ends….ok, got the image? With that goofy smirk and the new hat, does he not resemble a court jester?

God damn that man is a fool.

  • 11. piratetoby  |  March 29th, 2009 at 1:52 pm

Oh, I forgot to mention…..Dwight Mann. I did feel a distinct nip in the AYRE.

Although it pains me to say, no one could dish about Master G. Severino III like Huberty. Kinda miss that, CF.

  • 12. Cap'n Spackle  |  March 29th, 2009 at 4:58 pm

I don’t think calling someone who was once a stand-up comedian a jester is too much of an insult, but speaking of fools, I caught some of the Guardian at the Gate’s show this afternoon. He and his manly-voiced co-host were upset by the terrorist’s disinvitation to come and fill the next generation of troubled trust fund kiddies with his rubbish. Apparently there’s a similar outcry underway over Notre Dame University’s decision to bring a famous pro-infanticide politician and his teleprompter out to South Bend.

  • 13. piratetoby  |  March 29th, 2009 at 4:59 pm

Hey “ladies”! Come out come out wherever you are! What’s the deal? Two apparently biologically correct ladies get off on the wrong stop, claws and teeth exposed and what? You all retreat like frightened turtles!!

Trust me! The coast is clear. I slapped an estrogen patch on those kitty cats, gave them a Charlie pass and made sure they got on the right train.

Now, grow a pair, or show a pair. Hell do whatever you need to, but get back here and try to at least “act’ like men.

  • 14. piratetoby  |  March 29th, 2009 at 5:40 pm

Cap’n, I wasn’t going for the heavy handed insult with the jester’s cap. But thte fact you mentioned Graham Cracker’s career in stand up serves to validate my point and a reason he lacks credibility, IMO. When I listen to him, I feel like he is performing his act. From his, ” I AM MICHAEL GRAHAM” INTRODUCTION, right down to his callers. If they don’t “participate” in the act, they’re cut off. Granted we all want to be entertained. But there has to be some balance between information and entertainment on talk radio. Again, IMO.

    ADot,

After book #1 is published, I hear he’s signing for a series of “how to” books. Let’s see…..there’s his how to book on speed reading where he teaches his method: a combination of Cliff notes, ghost readers and out right lying.

Then there’s another one on how to live stress free. Possible title: “How to Stay Cool When the World is Going Nucular”.

Oh, he’s also going to do one of those little mini-books they sell up at the cash register. For those impulse shoppers, it’s titled “Pull my Finger” a collection of his favorite flatulence jokes. Mark my words, a fart book penned by D. has best seller written all over it.

Ayers is still going to speak to the students via video link……………

Off topic,,,,,would someone in the biz PLEASE answer this question……….why is there always so much dead air on RKO,,,,dead air during Ingraham, Limbaugh, Savage, Doyle, C2C and last nite during Bill Cunningham and it happens during Howie’s show as well….I don’t understand why this happens and it happens often and for extended periods of time especially at nite. Is there an issue with the feed, are they censoring?

  • 23. Cap'n Spackle  |  March 30th, 2009 at 8:42 am

Hey Barbara, I’m not in the biz but my understanding is that this is a result of using automated feeds with inadequate technical staff on hand to prevent it and/or fix it quickly. Not a case of asleep at the switch — more like nobody at the switch.

  • 24. the real Barbara  |  March 30th, 2009 at 8:47 am

Thanks Cap’n……it’s so frustrating especially when the host is actually discussing something worth listening to and all of a sudden dead air, and it goes on sometimes for 15 minutes, it happened a couple of times during Cunningham’s show last nite and happens quite often during other shows…..I’ve sent e-mails to RKO and of course have not received a response, nothing, not even a “thanks for bringing this to our attention” response………

  • 25. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 9:10 am

    Cap’n,

Funny book/title, but wrong cat. You dig? Actually I think Dubya did have a thing for cats. Didn’t he stick a firecracker up the butt of a cat when he was a kid?

    ADot,

Giving up terrorist speaking tours for Lent? Hey, you’ve gotta suffer for Lent. Try this: giving up self-gratification while listening to a few select passages from the audio version of “Steal the Book” in a continuous loop. Thankfully I do not do Lent.

Now did I hear McFlea’s promo this AM that had her and a law enforcement type going up in a helicopter with her to broadcast from the cockpit?

  • 28. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 10:19 am

Depends. Caught stealing the book, or caught in self gratification?

  • 29. ActuaryDot  |  March 30th, 2009 at 10:34 am

In either case, where I come from I ain’t

the very least 10yrs of community service.

  • 30. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 10:54 am

10 years minimum. The book stealing requires reading the stimulus bill to solitary confinements at Walpole. And the self gratification penalty is monitoring others who have to watch erotic scenes with McFlea’s voice providing the audio. You supply the eye drops, Clockwork Orange style, to keep their vision focused.

  • 31. ActuaryDot  |  March 30th, 2009 at 11:40 am

I just finished looking in the campus directory
and to my surprise there is absolutely no

  • 34. Cap'n Spackle  |  March 30th, 2009 at 2:46 pm

Chris, how insensitive. Don’t you know that the perfesser has moved.on(.org) from his youthful indiscretions? He’s not interested in blowing sh1t up anymore, he discovered that he can make a bigger negative impact by taking tens of millions of dollars from gullible philanthropists and using it to worsen government school systems, thereby sticking it to The Man for generations to come.

    is there a Depository?

  • 36. ActuaryDot  |  March 30th, 2009 at 2:57 pm

Yup there is and also it says on page 14 that there
is a wet bar in every dorm and that is where the
Depository comes into play. I think that age 14
is code for something or other. Oh, hells bells
maybe I will go outside for awhile.

  • 37. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 4:02 pm

    Texas Book Repository?

Yeah, I think the wet bar is a major attraction for BC. One never needs to leave the dorms to make (or recieve) deposits.

The “age 14 code” is a secret code known to priests only. Apparently it their dirty little code for a kid “over the hill”. Get ‘em under 14! This is what I was told….

And Chris, there is plenty of grassy knolls surrounding BC….millions and millions of $$ worth sold by the Archdoicese to BC (before they were forced to sell it for, you know, legal obligations…..)

  • 38. ActuaryDot  |  March 30th, 2009 at 4:33 pm

Age 14-that’s the ticket! Depository, Repository,
let’s call the whole thing off.

I wonder why Bri has not done an update on this thread?? Inquiring minds want to know.

  • 39. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 5:39 pm

Good God. Look at the publicity Graham Crackers is getting? I’ll tell you, it’s scary. To think that he generated this much publicity in the event that within 24 hours BC cancelled the appearance really blows my mind.

I know I am in the minority here, and let me qualify by stating I am not some radical Ayers supporter, but it is a sad day in this country when colleges and universities ban controversial speakers. And then to lie and/or cover-up their part in this whole thing, for what? To pacify their donors?

I was truly amazed today listening to J & M when they stated something like over 90% of their email was supportive of this decision. What a sad state of affairs.

  • 45. piratetoby  |  March 30th, 2009 at 6:55 pm

  • 52. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 10:04 am

    Cricket,

I disagree. Generational communication is not the reason for newspaper’s failing. A combination of advertising costs, the lack of innovation and/or arrogance behind decision making and the same thing that has brought down every other industry recently: greed- blame those factors on the failure.

  • 53. Cricket  |  March 31st, 2009 at 10:28 am

Pirate, none of that matters if no one reads newspapers any longer right? I agree with the innovation factor…but honestly, I have a bunch of college kids I work with. They prefer to text….occasionally cell phone…none of them get’s out there in person and starts a riot. They do it on the internet if at all…and often it is under an assumed name.
I know when I have an outrage I call the papers or they have called me because I post my real name when commenting on-line to some of their stories.
Overall face to face communication has lost so much it depresses me.

  • 54. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 11:05 am

    Cricket,
My disagreement was with your reasons for newspaper’s failings, nothing to do with if they matter. That is a seperate issue.

So, what does college kids texting and blogging have to do with newspaper’s failing? And how has using an alias vs real name in the comments section contributed to the failing?

  • 55. Cricket  |  March 31st, 2009 at 11:15 am

everything is anon… no one knows how to deal with conflict. I wish these kids would speak up! Debate can be healthy right? It loses a lot for me if it is done electronically…of course maybe that’s because I can’t type as fast as I speak.
Wouldn’t a newspaper love to show up to a student protest at a college rahter than on a blog?
    Maybe my age is showing (-;

  • 56. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 11:50 am

As was stated in another post failure is due to

  • 60. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 2:50 pm

If you fill your pockets w/the stuff, while it may not be legal tender, you can sell it on Ebay. I have tons of the stuff and was surprised to see so many sellers on Ebay.

With the economy in the toilet, one might be out there picking sea glass just to make ends meet. Who knows? I could be forced to sell my collection.

Ebay…is that not the coolest place? There is nothing you can’t find on Ebay.

  • 61. ActuaryDot  |  March 31st, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Ebay, I thought that was just for Velvet Elvis.
    Who knew from sea glass?

  • 62. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 4:16 pm

Velvet Elvis!! Oh yes, plenty of those, but in addition to velvet there’s: Fat Elvis, Skinny Elvis, Military Elvis, Drugged out hand shakin’ Nixon Elvis and/or anything else Elvis, there is nothing you can’t find.

I like to mix pieces of vintage anything into my wardrobe, home, collecting and I love finding really special gifts. Years ago when Ebay first started I won a first edition of Sylvia Plath’s “Bell Jar”. However, it was not published under her name, her publisher suggested she used a pseudonym, Victoria Lucas. I bought this intended to gift it as a gift. Then I couldn’t part with it! It’s very rare. And if you own an old home, and need some kind of something old and original, Ebay’s the place.

Anyway one can buy 50 pieces (that’s not a lot) of Cape Cod sea glass for $ 80.00 on Ebay. I may start bagging it up when I get home!

Oh and for anyone else reading this, there is another site that has really cool vintage and handmade items….its http://www.etsy.com.

  • 63. ActuaryDot  |  March 31st, 2009 at 4:28 pm

I have used etsy.com. I have started to
    purchase Romance Lights (votive holder)
at Eclectic on Main St in Chatham. They
can be seen but not purchased on
    Romance Lights.com. Just wonderful! The
Path find was truly special. Much more to share
but it probably is not going to savewrko.

  • 64. piratetoby  |  March 31st, 2009 at 4:44 pm

    Save what? Just kiddin’ Brian!

Oh no! I’ve found another Etsy user! I must check out the votive holders.

One final Ebay story….a friend of mine bought a bunch of crap at a “penny sale” in Hull. One of the items purchased for 1 cent was a little brass Scottish terrier - maybe 2 X 1 in. It was engraved with Provincetown on front and a date (1940′ish) on back. She thought it was cute and listed it for .99 cents on Ebay. Well, she had hundreds of bids and sold it for at least a couple hundred dollars. Apparently it was made in P-town and the date on the back was the last year the foundry was operating. You know how some of these P-town guys are, and if they happened to have a terrier? Sky’s the limit when it comes to $$. What a freak thing, and for a penny!

FYI, Pirate’s aren’t too shabby when it comes to
    $$!! Just musing.

OK, let me tell you something about pirates and money. Their good fortunes at times have gone way up, in addition to going way down. When they’re up, they enjoy living lavishly and delight in spending it. And not just on themselves. No, they love spending it on the ones they care about and their generosity is matched only be the happiness they feel sharing it. But the thing about pirates, they never save for a rainy day, and tend to be trusting. They don’t think about money until they have none. And, you know the story, one day the wake up with none.

Poor pirate!! Money’s kaput!! But no, you’re wrong. Pirates are able to adapt very easily. They cut out what they can no longer afford. And they’re fine. Because up or down they’re happy, and don’t allow money to play too much of part in their happiness.

And let me tell you, this seemingly simple life lesson can not be underestimated in an economy like we’re facing today. Pirates are very resilient and do whatever’s necessary to make ends meet.

Oh and there’s one more thing that pirates have come to know in a way that non-pirates will never fully appreciate: a long, hot, steamy shower

What about the patch over the eye? On or off
in the steamy hot shower? Thank you for the
swashbuckling description of the life of a
pirate named Toby. That is you isn’t it?
Who is going to ask Bri if we saved rko yet?

The eye patch? Oh, that silly old thing. No, we’ve given those nasty patches up a long time ago. Laser correction, bi-focal contacts, Rx sunglasses. No need for a patch. Eyes wide open in the shower, unless burning from shampoo.

Let’s see…..if a pirate’s life is one of good fortunes and lost fortunes, of adventure, romantic notions and a lust for life, then yes, I have a bit of pirate in me. And I am never far from the ocean and never will be.

But enough of my tall maritime tales. This mission to to Save WRKO, not highjack the damn Mother ship. Cap’n Bry will have me walking the plank if I don’t shape up. And you won’t be far behind, matey. Now, lights out!
