Imus, Kerry Pretend To Be Adversarial
by Brian Maloney, June 23rd, 2009 at 11:11am
It’s hard to argue with the cause: fighting prostate cancer. For Don Imus and John Kerry to pretend they’ve had an adversarial relationship, however, is just plain silly.
In Sunday’s Boston Globe, the decrepit talk fossil and snobbish Massachusetts Democrat co-authored an Op-Ed piece on the cancer fight, but led off with this historical rewrite:
WE’VE SPENT 15 years beating each other up on the air. But when the studio doors closed and that red light went off, we both had to confront far tougher words: prostate cancer. We both read the deadly statistics: 28,000 American men lost each year to this disease.
This “two longtime foes coming together to fight cancer” routine fails to mention that Imus endorsed Kerry on the air during the 2004 presidential campaign. Since then, Kerry has enjoyed regular appearances on Imus’s show, with no sign of “beating each other up” or anything tougher than pure fluff.
It’s been years since Don Imus was anything more than a boring establishment suck-up. His program is a great way to anchor a station that aspires to nothing more than 14th place in the local ratings, but otherwise, Imus is long past his sell-by date. No wonder he gets along so well with John Kerry!

Turds of a feather flock together … The difference between Imus and Kerry is that Imus was actually good and sincere once upon a time.

Brian,
C’mon. I’m no Imus fan, however the implication that Imus and Kerry are “playing up” their relationship as adversaries is what’s silly. It’s purely Imus’ shtick- being grouchy and combative with his guests, and anyone who’s listened to him knows that.

I agree with Brian. I have heard Kerry on the show for over 10 years now and they are definately not adversaries. Imus cuts him a lot of slack. I believe the wives are friendly as well. Foes is not a word I would use to describe the relationship.

whatever,
What do you agree with?

That’s it! One sentence. Pretense? Adversaries? You’re kidding me, right? That was nothing more than an a tongue-in-cheek opening line.

This is important, why?

Who’s on first?
9. piratetoby | June 23rd, 2009 at 7:04 pm
Who.
Now before I leave this sorry-ass subject, that last word I have to say is:
Brian, I hope the hell there’s some real news to report soon on the latest Globe negotiations…..cuz your analysis of this Op-Ed is really pushin’ it. You’ve got some seriously deep-rooted hate for the Globe, dude.
Who.

Imus is the one with the palatial mansion in New Mexico that he uses as a front for underprivileged children, right? He used his radio show to extort money from listeners in the name of ‘the children’ before the whole thing was exposed as a sham because Imus used the money to simply pad his nest out there.
The only thing that comes to mind about Kerry is his lacquered hair. Think ‘Jon Edwards’ with a little more hair spray. Talk about a bottomless reservoir of vanity.

Imus is as irrelevant as the 14th place station he is broadcast on. WTKK. The station needs a major overhaul or a format switch.

fe, fi, fo, fum…. I smell the blood of…….nevermind.
Imus in the Morning- with the exception of Bernard and Warner Wolf (what can I say? I’ve got a soft spot for older Jews), they could toss the whole lot of them out, Imus included.
He’s had a long run. Why doesn’t he just retire? Ninety percent of his show is about his health, his meds, what he’s eating. Who cares? Just retire and take care of your health. It’s brutal listening to his show. It’s habit alone that keeps me listening in the morning.

And why are we subjected to Deirdre Imus? Is being a gold-digger the only qualification for getting on air now? Wow. She is awful. And that voice!
Pirate, so I pick up the ball and throw it to who?

Just a quick spin off on another subject. Is it me or does WBZ have the worst traffic reports? They do the traffic on the 3’s thing but on many occasions I have been sitting in dead stop traffic on the expressway or another major highway and they never mention it or say that traffic is clear. Yesterday I sat in traffic on the expressway for 25 minutes between the split and the tanks and not a word from them on the 3 reports I heard. I then hit another 15 minute pocket getting onto the Tobin (due to construction) and again, not a word. This happens many times. I will say that WTKK at least has accurate traffic reports but what is up with Ed Charabeeno’s new thing calling his news casts “Boston’s Big News”? I guess when you are in 14th place everything has to be “Big” in order to keep the handful of listeners they have tuned in.

Softy, Who !
Marco, Try coming up with something “catchy” for the news. There’s really only a limited amout of words one can add to the word ‘news’ to enhance it, and seems they’ve all been used.
Now if Cherbino’s last name was Schecter like Danny, he, too could have been the “News Dissector”.
C’mon people. I know I’m not the only one here old enough to remember “Danny Schecter the News Dissector”….. ‘fess up.

Remember him? He is still out there just on the internet. I do recall the WBCN days.

How about this: “This is the news with Ed Cherbino on Boston’s Craparino Talk Station, WTKK”……….
18. piratetoby | June 26th, 2009 at 7:05 pm
well, if we were to build on the “craperino” rhyme, Severino is the next logical word.

Imus is so old. He creeps me out.
why is he still on the radio.
i dont get it.
20. piratetoby | June 27th, 2009 at 5:52 pm
yeah, susie, I agree.
The picture of him w/this story is the creepiest ……. if he had a nun’s habit on, he’d look like one of the ancient Sisters I remember from school.

Where is Ed Cherubino anyway? And Hank Morse? Both on vacation at the same time? Mauzy Stafford has been doing the news all day this past week.
And I must say I don’t like the new clock in Michael Graham’s show.
22. piratetoby | June 28th, 2009 at 11:55 am
What is the “new clock” on Graham’s show?
I like Mauzy (?) Stafford reading the news. Like her voice, and I like her name.
Hank Morse is OK, too, but I’m partial to Ed Cherabino.

“What is the “new clock” on Graham’s show?”
It used to be 7 minutes of news, weather, and ads. Now the news is much shorter and Graham comes on at 2 past. I miss that news. And I don’t like how they now call the news “Boston’s Big News.”
There’s more talking between Mauzy and Graham than there was with Hank and Graham, which is fine. (Probably because Hank is also the live news guy for several other stations and is too busy. You can hear voices from other Greater Media stations on WTKK, too, like Carolyn Cruise from WKLB.)
There are more and shorter breaks, including the times when he talks about Jeff Carbone and all the other things he pitches as part of the conversation of the show. Also, he’ll pop in between spots for a few seconds of teaser.
It changes the whole rhythym of his show and I liked the old rhythym better. If you listen to Jim and Margery or Jay, their show has the “old” regular clock, pretty much, and you always know what time it is by the kind of break that comes on.
I am just a radio nerd who listens to WTKK all day at work and into the evening when I can.
BTW, I am NOT Margery, though I think the Magpie nickname is wickedly funny (I mean, compare her to the bird….some would say it fits her.) Magpie is my cat’s name, that’s all.
