The Felon’s Biggest Worry: Howie Carr!
by Brian Maloney, June 30th, 2009 at 01:26pm
Want to know what truly keeps WRKO’s morning felon Tom Finneran awake at night? It’s Howie Carr!
Thanks to a new court filing, the cows are officially out of the barn.
According to today’s Boston Herald, The Felon appears more worried about Howie Carr’s opinion of his punishment than virtually anything else:
“Here, we have a case where the evidence indicates that (Finneran) - a lawyer with an otherwise impeccable record for honesty and service to the commonwealth - had a moment of personal weakness,” attorney Arnold Rosenfeld contends in a document whose opening statement is a single, 172-word sentence.
And while he’s not mentioned by name, Finneran, who hosts a morning talk show on WRKO-AM (680), appears to implore the SJC to ignore the “ignorant criticisms” of Herald columnist and fellow ’RKO talkmeister Howie Carr when factoring in the public’s anticipated reaction to whether the disgraced pol gets the boot or the kid-gloves treatment.
“Whatever discipline the court imposes on (Finneran) is going to be criticized by those in the media who claim to represent public opinion, but who, in reality, regularly ignore the true facts of any situation and insult anyone and everyone,” Rosenfeld rails.

The idea that WRKO would put the disgraced - and convicted - former Speaker of the House in the morning drive slot must have Gerry Williams spinning in his grave.
It is an absolute abomination. Talk radio found its footing opposing corrupt power brokers like Finneran.
There’s only one kind of person who will jump into bed with anybody at all. Where I came from (JP!), we called them whores.
And RKO wonders why it’s circling the drain…

The truth is that the Felon adds nothing to his show. While Feinburg adds intelligence the Felon just laughs in the background. He sounds like the Aflack duck.

Finneran’s punishment was severe but necessary if we want to deter this kind of behavior in the future. Now, we just need to convince the crooks that they will get caught or caught in a timely manner, not after 25 years of unethical behavior.

It’s July 1st 2009 and I have not listen to the Felon. If that’s not insulting enough I LISTEN to IMUS until 9…THAT’S GOTTA HURT! (it hurts me)

BV, I’m on your team. I, too, have never listened to the Felon on the radio, and like you, adding insult to injury, listen to Imus.
It’s habit only that keeps me listening to Imus. His show has gone from bad to worse. It is really, really bad. Bernard is so talented, he must wince listening to the crap he is responsible for producing.

Pirate, is Bernard really talented? He strikes me as kinda dumb, appealing to hoi polloi with his Lowest Common Denominator-type humor?

Softy,
It may be tough to view Bernard as talented based on the current show. He’s pretty much silenced now.
He does not strike me as dumb, to the contrary. He’s better informed than Imus (although lately that’s not saying much). He doesn’t get much of a chance to display his comedic talents, and yeah, the little he’s allowed is not “hi-brow” humor. But I’m not a humor snob. There’s lots of low rent stuff I find funny. What can I say? I’m a member of the hoi polloi.
