*** Bottom Line: WRKO Blows It Again During Key News Event By Switching To Pre-game Show ***
During an extended holiday weekend with virtually no advance press notice, Sarah Palin used a low-profile press conference to make an announcement that has significant national repercussions: she’s resigning as governor of Alaska.
What a way to stick it to her mainstream media foes! Most of the A-list scribes were already safely nestled into their Hamptons beach chairs, thousands of miles from Palin’s home turf.
But it also meant much of talk radio had packed it in for the weekend, including Rush Limbaugh, who did a live show today but will be away next week. Howie Carr, however, lucked out and found a huge story landing in his lap on a day that would have been news-free otherwise. Callers immediately jammed his lines with varying reactions.
Oddly, a few conservative bloggers see this as the end of Palin’s political career, but I doubt the Obamists are planning for that scenario. More likely, this means the beginning of the 2012 presidential race, with Palin devoting herself full time to campaigning.
Let’s face it: she doesn’t need to remain Alaska’s governor, at this point, it is merely in the way.
Carr feels Palin has just handed her critics a huge victory and believes this paves the way for Mitt Romney’s GOP nomination. Some callers believe she’s just written her political obituary, but I think they may be misreading her move.
But Howie’s news cycle windfall didn’t last long, it was once again been interrupted by another moronic Red Sox pre-game show. Carr was placed in the awkward position of begging listeners to follow him to Worcester’s WCRN 830 AM, where his program isn’t cut short.
Meanwhile, creepy left-wing bloggers haven’t let up, with Riehl World View catching Firedoglake kooks photoshopping an image of her family.

I think she should do whatever she feels is best. While I like her very much and think she is far more qualified than the dolt currently in the White House, I don’t want her to run. I think her critics will shred her, and I can’t bear to watch that happen again. It will be interesting to see where she goes….

Sarah Palin is Godzilla, and the Dems are scared to death of her. Ladyjane, throw your support behind this woman. Don’t listen to the lefty dolts who think she’s not ready! Just look at the mess Obama’s got us in!!! Palin is a REAL American…NOT an America hater like the 2 gems that occupy the White House!

Palin made the announcement after Rush’s show ended. It would have been interesting to hear his thoughts… he’s been a big Sarah booster. I bet I know what Romney thinks. I agree with ladyjane. Her critics would have her for lunch. I like her and most of her positions but she’s a weak communicator. I heard someone on fox saying she delivered a strong speech today. She didn’t. It was weak and wierd, as is her decision to leave office. She should think about running for congress not the White House, at least not yet.

Ideology aside, her main drawback was a lack of experience. This move does not help in that regard.
Antenna makes a good point. If this sets the table for a senate run, that might be the smartest thing she could do.
As a left leaning moderate, I’d never vote for her. Under certain circumstances I might vote for Romney. Those of you that think the Dems are afraid of her are delusional. The strategy of the “Obamists” as you call them is to prop up Palin and Limbaugh as the faces of the Republican party because they both alienate moderates that the Republicans need to recapture to become relevant again.

Aside from the incessant Obama tongue-bathers, people are already sick of Obama. And we’ve got 3.5 years left of this insufferable big-eared smoker? Once people see that Obama has delivered nothing but ruin in his tireless attempt to make himself an Emperor (or something swaddled in Purple), Palin will be a major force. Letterman and the cackling Hens on The View have shot their little cap guns, so there’s no new ammo for them to use.

I’d like to see a Liz Cheney/Palin ticket in ‘12.
(Assuming the Constitution still allows for elections by then.)

Yeah, because that worked out so well in ‘08.

Brian,
You think her low-key announcement at 4:00 pm on a Friday before a major holiday was her way of sticking it to the mainstream media?
NO WAY. The timing was not about sticking it to the media, but rather getting as little media coverage as possible.
I think something has happened in her personal life, and she’s all done. Either the first dude (or whatever her husband is called) had a “dalliance”, or another teenage daughter got knocked up.
She milked the publicity from Lettermen’s remarks for all she could. She does not shy away from media publicity, she uses it. She finds a way to capitalize on it.
Not this time. Some personal issue is behind her resignation. And I’ll “betcha” every flight to Alaska was booked this afternoon, cause there’s a STORY waiting to be uncovered.

Inquiring minds say: Diprivan was found in
her rented igloo.
Who cares why, just that it happened.
Happy bang bang boom boom to one and all.

One of 5 things have happened to prompt this move:
1). She is clearing her plate for a senate or presidential run
2). She or her husband have been caught in some sort of scandal where there is undeniable proof.
3). She wants to cash in on her popularity and will dedicate all of her time to appearances and possibly a reality TV show.
4). Health reasons (she has lost some serious weight)
5). She has had enough and She really wants to dedicate her time to raising her family (very honorable).
I’m sure in the coming weeks we will get the whole story. Until then it is all just a guessing game.

Pirate. Little Media attention are you kidding????????? Fox News was all over this thing. I saw the announcement on Fox and she looked tired probably from her trip overseas. The First Dude was by her side. I think she’s paving the way for a run for the US Senate or House, or she is going into the background for awhile and study up on Foreign Affairs. She’s done well by Alaska in spite of the dopey Dems response. Chris Wallace asked the Fox White House correspondent what the White House reaction was, and he said, (paraphrasing) that the White House was SILENT! Wallace’s said something to the effect that they are just going to watch and listen as to what might happen. The Libs, aka Dems are affraid of her that’s why they continue to berate her. Lastly, Palin mentioned that she polled the family and that there were 3 yeses about quiting and one HELL NO! She didn’t say where the HELL NO! came from. Todd perhaps??????

medic,
Either you missed my point, or I wasn’t clear. Makes no difference even if all the major stations interrupted her resignation as “breaking news”. Who is watching TV at 4 pm on a Friday - the eve of the Forth of July?
Her timing is a major clue. Why not wait until Monday? Why the urgency?
I happened to hear it late yesterday afternoon. Later in the evening while I was out, I asked a few people if they had heard it. Everyone I had asked said NO. Why? Because of her timing. C’mon! It’s a classic move used by all pols. And she bought herself a few days before the **** hits the fan, because of the holiday.
And the White House being SILENT? Maybe they, too, celebrate the 4th of July? Ya think? Seriously, I don’t think her resignation warrants a response from the White House on the eve of July 4th.
And trust me, my opinion has nothing whatsoever with my like/dislike of Sarah Palin.

“Aside from the incessant Obama tongue-bathers, people are already sick of Obama.”
-I guess 60% is still tongue bathing. You should really talk to more people when you get out of the bunker Chris. From Gallup yesterday:
Obama Honeymoon Continues; 7 Months Is Recent Average
July 3, 2009
Barack Obama’s recent job approval ratings have hovered around 60%. Since they remain above the historical average of 55% approval, he is arguably still in the honeymoon phase of his presidency. Recent presidents have averaged just seven months above this benchmark, much less than those from 1945-1974.

Who is this Palin woman?
16. piratetoby | July 5th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Softy,
Here’s a three part answer to your question:
1. Nationally, if she is the best the GOP has for their next Presidential hopeful? Then it only solidifies the mess their party is in.
2. Locally, she was the subject of Magpie’s Herald column that caused irreparable damage to her career, damage from which she has never recovered. I myself don’t understand it, don’t agree with it, and feel she has been treated unfairly because of it. Nevertheless, I don’t see her ever bouncing back from her unfortunate choice of Palin as a subject for her columns.
3. Personally, I view her as a very attractive woman, who carried herself beautifully and gave a memorable performance with her speech at the Republican Nat’l Convention. Nothing more, nothing less.
And before I am inundated with comments, understand the irony of Obama’s introduction into the national limelight mirroring Palins’s is not lost on me.
17. Stealing Home | July 6th, 2009 at 7:32 am
I think all the Palin “dirt” is already out there. The lib. media certainly wouldn’t hold any back. Now she is free to give speeches, do tv programs, without being tied to a political office in a far away state. She also got to stick her finger in the eye of the national media. I love the fact she called a press conference in Alaska ,Friday PM just before July 4th. Kind of like “W” when the media HATED to hang around his Texas ranch on his summer vacations….
