Oslo Feeds Obama’s Ego, Pundits Reap The Rewards
by Brian Maloney, October 9th, 2009 at 12:15pm
How else can this be characterized? Rush Limbaugh has never sounded more energized, while libtalkers are taking calls from baffled Obama supporters who wonder how this move could hurt their Dear Leader’s political standing here at home.
And of course, The Globies were quick to highlight this AP piece that defends Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize win as an award based on “promise” rather than real results. That’s a stretch.
For non-believers, this is a great day, as the backlash has already begun. Had Obama turned down the award, he would have gained ten points in the polls, but the egotistical way in which he jumped on it will cost him politically.
Talk radio is in heaven. Thanks, Oslo!
UPDATE: this was probably not the best day for Col Hunt, filling in for Howie Carr, to admit he voted for Obama last November and try to defend that action in a mealy-mouthed manner.
UPDATE II: libtalkers are finding their on-air celebration disrupted by baffled Obama supporters

Now I know why NASA sent a craft hurtling into the Moon; it was carrying the first bits of the Obama Monument there. What a disgustingly over-hyped president we have here. And his stupid dog did a dump on Air Force 1.
For a real laugh, take a look at Obama’s agenda for the first twelve days of his administration…the twelve days that this ‘prestigious’ award was based upon. Yes: he won a Nobel peace prize based on THAT. The whole Nobel thing is nothing more than a ‘Whack-a-Mole’ contest with a little bit of ‘Miss America’ thrown in.
Laughable.

I honestly thought he would pass on it and let one of the deserving nominees have it. Then I heard there was 1 million dollars attached to it. Maybe he needs the money?
My liberal friends are even thinking it is a joke.

Brian,
I don’t think the award should have been given to Obama either, however I love the way it just gives right-wingers (like you) and Rush another reason to bash Obama. Just blame him for everything.
Rusty-codone calls the award an even “greater embarrassment” than the Olympics? For who? Who’s embarrassed? And I just love “God has a great sense of humor”. Spoken like a true right-wing nut who practices no spiritual principals, then uses the word “God” as a magnet.
Yeah, good one, Cricket, needing the money. You think for a second he’ll keep it? Not donate it to charity? Yeah, I bet you do.

I think this takes things to a whole new level , instead of “Jumped the shark” we should say “awarded the Nobel peace prize”
5. Charlie | October 9th, 2009 at 3:05 pm
This is just confirmation of what conservatives already knew:
1. Europe and their collective opinions about US politics are worthy of nothing more than a derisive laugh.
2. Obama has liberals the world over falling at his feet for one reason only.
He is a black liberal who never hesitates to bash America. (OK, maybe that’s three reasons)
3. Obama could cook and eat a 3 year old child and the left-wing would laud him for his “innovative efforts to fight global warming through population control”.
(Oslo would than award him the newly-created Nobel prize for new discoveries in cuisine)
4. The left is about style over substance. Feelings over facts. No accomplishments necessary.
5. Long Norwegian winters lead to brain damage.
It’s a good thing that Norway is only a meaningless blotch on a map and not a country that is actually important. With soft-as-a-grape thinking like this, they could do some real damage.
6. ladyjane | October 9th, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Well, he won’t be winning any award for dog training! I think it is funny that poor Bo couldn’t hold it in on Air Force 1!

Maybe he needs the $mil for Bill Ayers hush money.
8. Brian Flaherty | October 9th, 2009 at 4:19 pm
I turned on WRKO and the second the announcer said Hunt was filing in, I changed the channel right away. This guy is awful, God freakin awful, why do they put him on???
9. swami | October 9th, 2009 at 4:35 pm
Brian Flaherty–I did the same thing. This was a perfect Howie day, yet we get stuck with the raspy Colonel.
Just as well. Aren’t Fridays Howie’s “let’s talk about dogs” days?
10. New York Pizza | October 9th, 2009 at 4:50 pm
Is Hunt the guy subbing for Carr who sounds like an overweight, gay smoker? (–Not that there’s anything wrong per se with overweight, gay smokers–)
I immediately shut him off also, not because of how he sounds, so much as his inarticuation and lack of content.
11. Cricket | October 9th, 2009 at 7:21 pm
hey Mr. literal, I was being sarcastic. Who do you think nominated him? My guess is Chris Mathews!

He is now in the company of past winners Yasser Arafat and Henry Kissinger!!!
13. Joe Perry | October 9th, 2009 at 8:32 pm
Boy am I bummed out….I submitted my friend Bruce Springsteen for the award. Maybe next year.

I had to read three different articles this morning before realizing that Obama winning the Nobel Prize wasn’t just a joke.
15. piratetoby | October 9th, 2009 at 9:19 pm
Good Gawd Almighty. I got stuck listening to Michele McGramatically-challenged tonight. Poor lass, trying to be clever ends up tripping over her own words. She was truly unbelievable.
And, granted Obama was not the best choice for a Nobel Prize, but why BLAME him? He didn’t petition the committee. McMouth bitching that he didn’t decline the prize, bitching that it took him too long (4+ hours) to make a statement of what charity he’d be giving the $$ too. Equates him winning to “stealing a lottery ticket”…..which implies he was ACTIVE in this thing. I was racking my brains for the phone number to the station to call in. Last I heard she was playing cutsie w/David Andleman.
16. steve | October 9th, 2009 at 9:31 pm
Col. Hunt is positively unlistenable….
It is enough to make me spring for a satellite radio
17. piratetoby | October 9th, 2009 at 9:49 pm
“He is now in the company of past winners Yasser Arafat and Henry Kissinger!!!”
Let me guess….sarcasm again?
18. aging cynic | October 9th, 2009 at 10:33 pm
“Obama was not the best choice for a Nobel Prize”.
Yeah, and WWII was a difference of opinion. In much the same way that McPhee trips over her own words, Obama trips over his own ego. He likes people as an amorphous class, (not requiring actual empathy) but one-on-one, not so much. Idealogues defending the indefensible are always pathetic no matter which side of the aisle they sit on. He had better discover self-effacement in a hurry. People want to like him but he is snatching away our excuses.

He doesn’t deserve it. He hasn’t been in office long enough. I like the fact he is donating the 1.4 million. Michelle McUninformed tried to be funny by continuing to announce during her show “this just in Obama wins Tony award for play he has yet to write….then says Obama wins grammy award for something he will do in the future. If she did even the slightest bit of homework she would have known he does have a Grammy for his audio version of his book. Can she get through a segment on her show without getting something wrong at some point?
20. Marco | October 10th, 2009 at 7:40 am
One other note on Michelle McCluless. Dan Flynn subbed for her earlier this week. This guy announces circles around her and is a breath of fresh air compared to her show. He sounds smooth and fluid, engages his callers rather than trying to “buddy up” (her annoying “I Knoooow” when she has a caller that agrees with her is horrible) and most importantly he has his facts in order and doesn’t vomit nonsense while stumbling to the commercial break. WTKK-Please dump her, sign this guy, and put him in her time slot. She can finish out her contract by calling in to the Andlemans and Joe & Huggy show where they can all banter about East Boston, the N. End, and Revere.

ladyjane: ” Well, he won’t be winning any award for dog training! I think it is funny that poor Bo couldn’t hold it in on Air Force 1″
How did I miss this gem? I’ll betcha thought it was a hoot when young interns being introduced to Dubya were asked to pull his finger, and the Commander in Chief blows a fart.
Talk about posts lowering the bar…..there’s no bar here-there’s a limbo stick. Obama’s dog having as accident warrants a post? Are you a female Andleman?
22. junkydomUSA | October 10th, 2009 at 2:21 pm
Marcos post about DF being better than MM explains perfectly why the Col. fills in for Howie. And NYPizza, I’d like to see you say that to Hunt’s face…
23. Joe Perry | October 10th, 2009 at 5:12 pm
Hunt is a war hero…and he lost a brother in Vietnam. I like listening to him when he fills in.

I’ve never listened to him, but read the link provided by half a toxic twin. Thanks, Joe.
I had to note the last line about the embarassment of now finding WMD, because he knows they’re there.
He’s right…..those WMD are somewhere. We should know- we provided them. We sold them to Hussein, he never “paid up”, we go there to get them back, can’t find them, kill Hussein before we get him to tell us: what did you do with them? Who did you sell them to?
25. Medic | October 10th, 2009 at 6:32 pm
For anyone who didn’t know it, Col. Hunt has the raspy voice because he was wounded in the throat in Vietnam and that is why his voice is like that. I’m wondering if half of you people ever seved in the military at any time in your sad lives. Oh and before you question me, note the name! USAF 1968-1972. Now getting back to His Greatness, of course he deserves the Noble, he’s brought peace the world in 10 months. Oh, I forgot, he’s pissed off every Eastern European Allie, and let’s NOT forget he’s told Israel, (sp) and made this country less safe.
26. piratetoby | October 10th, 2009 at 6:55 pm
need a good laugh? Tune it to Ms. Jay, rewind on TKK. He’s talking about his sex-capades which lasted from age 16 - 36. Anyone bragging about all the sex they got growing up? NEVER GOT ANY!!!
27. ladyjane | October 10th, 2009 at 8:48 pm
I didn’t realize Col Hunt’s voice was due to an injury; that is too bad. I always tried to give him the benefit of the doubt when he filled in for Howie, but I could never quite warm up to him.
28. WRKO Staffer | October 11th, 2009 at 10:34 am
Isn’t it obvious that Jay is severely closeted?
29. Marco | October 11th, 2009 at 3:30 pm
I just heard that WEEI fired Pete Sheppard. No confirmation but if true they are definitely running scared from 98.5 as they cut the no-talent blowhard deadwood.
30. New York Pizza | October 11th, 2009 at 3:36 pm
Just because Colonel Hunt sounds like a gay overweight smoker, does that mean he’d object to his voice being described that way? I can’t think of a more accurate description. If military heroism is relevant, there must be other military heroes and/or heroines who could do a better job hosting a radio talk show than Colonel Hunt.
31. Medic | October 11th, 2009 at 4:38 pm
Hey Pizza Boy, that’s you New York! Bet that “overweight” hero can kick your ass from here to NY and back without a sweat. You don’t have to like him, no one asked you to, but let’s make sure before you say things like that, that you might wanna make sure you can run faster than he can! Oh, and when you are breathing hard and bleeding, don’t call for any medic ‘cuz we take care of our own and we do a damn good job of it!
32. piratetoby | October 11th, 2009 at 4:45 pm
Staffer: Yeah, he is severely closeted, and that’s fine. What bugs me is his over-the-top details of his past. Gay, straight or undetermined, bragging about one’s sexual prowess is the sign of an insecure adult who’s never gotten over not getting laid when everyone else was.
I’m on the mailing list for every possible cataloge one can imagine. Last week I got one for Gorsuch- it’s super high end ski wear (I don’t even ski). Ski parka are like $ 1,500.00 and up. Anyway, they have these men’s Nordic sweaters (they’re about $800- $1,000) and the only time I’ve seen one of these hideous sweaters, other than in this hideous catalogue, was on Ms. Jay.
33. RadioListener | October 11th, 2009 at 11:47 pm
Well, I guess this is just confirmation that right-wingers only care about America when their guy is in charge. Seriously.. this blog gets more laughable every day.
Just keep pretending that you’re a journalist though.. it’s pretty sad.
34. piratetoby | October 11th, 2009 at 11:54 pm
RL: How true! And when their guy’s in charge, liberals are accused of being unpatriotic. Man, that would really piss me off.
35. Cap'n Spackle | October 12th, 2009 at 10:57 am
If The Organizer had any guts he’d have said that he’s accepting the award in the name of Neda Soltan.

Our President has snagged another big prize. Congratulations!

I saw this tongue-in-cheek article today too, on Market Watch.

39. New York Pizza | October 13th, 2009 at 5:26 pm
How is whether Col. Hunt being able to kick my “ass from here to NY and back without a sweat” relevant to him being competent at hosting a radio show? Medic: I agree with what you say about “we take care of our own” as I experienced after being wounded in Tunisia in 1943.
