Ratings: Get Those Excuses Ready WTKK’s McPhee Heads To DC For Brown Swearing-In

Was It Something Howie Wrote?

*** UPDATE: DEMS MAY BE BACKING DOWN ***

*** RUSH WEIGHS IN ***

Since the election,
the situation has become increasingly inexplicable: with no uncertainty regarding the outcome of January 19’s vote, why is appointed Kennedy family crony Paul Kirk still in the US Senate? And for what reason must Scott Brown wait weeks for his victory to be certified?

Beyond partisan politics,
there’s no logical purpose served whatsoever.

For the first few days, it seemed appropriate for Brown to visit Washington and get the lay of the land. If legally dubious, Kirk’s continued presence there could be argued by some as legitimate.

As of two weeks later, however, with more than a week of stall tactics ahead of us, there’s simply no excuse.

But what surprises
me most is the extraordinary patience of Brown and so many others as this process drags along for no apparent reason. That patience wore out suddenly today as Brown and supporters wondered why Kirk won’t leave the chamber.

So what changed? Blame WRKO’s Howie Carr- his column in today’s Herald takes it straight to Kirk & Company:

Hey Sen. Paul Kirk - screw!

You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here, here being the U.S. Senate.

It’s been 15 days now since a Republican won the special election in Massachusetts, and Kirk is still squatting in Ted Kennedy’s office.

Hey Paul Kirk - how can we miss you if you won’t go away?

What’s it going to take to pry this guy out of office, the Jaws of Life?

From there, something
seemed to click and Brown suddenly demanded to be seated immediately. But that led to a instant backlash from the state-run media, which seems to be adopting partisan talking points in accusing him of “breaking the deal” to wait until February 11.

Show me a similar “deal” that has a Republican appointee keeping a seat warm while a Democratic Party victor happily waits patiently for weeks after a special election- good luck in your search.

If Cockroach of the Year Paul Kirk
had any decency, he would step down immediately, but clearly has no interest in giving up the seat.

By the way, Howie’s right about something else: the left really is spreading conspiracy theories about the Massachusetts vote being rigged by Diebold machines. It began around the time it became apparent Brown was ahead in the polls.

Howie was pretty funny today. He suggested that maybe Scott Brown would give him a pardon from WRKO so he could go to a real station and not have to explain to listeners to switch to another station when the sun went down. LOL

Which part of the very first line of the article you linked to, which reads:

“Since writing today’s piece for Upstate New York’s right-leaning Gouverneur Times

    …did you have trouble understanding?

The piece you linked to (mine) linked to the piece I co-wrote, with their conservative senior editor Nathan Barker, at the rightwing Gouverneur Times where I also covered the Conservative Party’s Doug Hoffman getting screwed by e-voting systems in the NY-23 race.

That’s what you describe as “the left really is spreading conspiracy theories about the Massachusetts vote being rigged by Diebold machines”?

I’ll hope the rest of your blog doesn’t misrepresent information to your readers as much as that one sentence did. And, by the way, if you give a damn about democracy, might I suggest you call for the ballots of the voters to actually be counted before anybody is declared the “winner” of any election.

Or, you can play your “far right” partisan politics instead if that’s more fun for ya. I’ll look out for *your* democracy, whether you give a damn about it or not.

Since writing today’s piece for Upstate New York’s right-leaning Gouverneur Times, a new poll has come out this morning showing the Republican Scott Brown now leading the Democrat Martha Coakley by 4 points

The poll wrote a piece for the Times before showing Brown in the lead?

  • 4. Cap'n Spackle  |  February 3rd, 2010 at 8:19 pm

Yeah, Brian. He has nothing to do with the left because he’s managed to get some of his typing into The Gouverneur Times.
“Brad is a frequent contributor to the Huffington Post and has written articles and editorials for The Guardian (UK), Mother Jones, Editor & Publisher, ComputerWorld, Columbus Free Press, Salon.com, TruthOut.org, Harvard’s Nieman Foundation of Journalism, Hustler and other non-pornographic publications and websites.”
Why, he’s practically William F. Buckley!

    This line:

strikes me as particularly funny considering that Nikki Tsongas was sworn in less than 48 hours after polls closed a mere two years ago.

Right, forget that democracy, real democracy only happens when Democrats win.

Teddy Kennedy elected 11-6-62, sworn in 11-7-62.

Really, have you been that twisted by partisan rage that that’s your response to elections being “called” before votes are actually counted??

I don’t know who Nikki Tsongas if he/she was sworn in before votes of voters were actually counted you raised wholly he’ll about it. What did you do? What action did you bother to take? Did you try to change the system? Because apparently it hasn’t changed much in MA cause you’re still putting people into office — Republican AND Democrat — without bothering to actually count votes.

Why aren’t you pissed off rather than creating phony “Democratic conspiracy theories”???

Apologies for typos. Typing on phone. Hopefully you got my point. Democracy needs you more than partisan politics does. Thanks.

My point was that you were not there with the hand wringing and the “OMG DEMOCRACY IS LOST OH NOES OMG LOLZ” when the shoe was on the other foot.

I’m not some partisan laundry rooter (as you have made it so abundantly clear that you are). I’ve voted for many different parties in my life. Hell, I didn’t even vote for McCain in 2008 (in fact, I threw my vote away on the Libertarian party), so your nonsensical charge of naked partisanship is just that.

I realize that a “me too!” argument, that is, excusing bad behavior with other bad behavior, is not a defense. But that was never my point, and if you could get through your own blind rage at Massachusetts DARING to vote for one of those evil baby-eating Republicans to fill Ted Kennedy’s Seat, you’d know that.

Brad, before you write off everyone on this blog, know there are a few of us who see thru Brian’s continous mis-representation of information, and those who hop on his bandwagon.

    I’m one of them.

However I need a little hiatus from this past election. My silence on this thread, on this issue, is out of a need to de-stress.

You are unaware that she is the widow of Sen. Paul Tsongas? The man whose untimely passing gave us “Liveshot” Kerry? And you expect us to listen to your “progressive” blather? I think not,

Your point would be wrong. But keep up the bad work.
