Well if Howie really is gone then I think WRKO is beyond saving and we should just give up. The king is dead, long live the king. Let's just forget about them and focus our attention and listening on WTKK.
What's next, Air America 680?
WRKO AM 680 The Talk Station died Monday.
Visiting hours will be Wed. from 2-4 pm and
7-9 pm. Burial will be Thursday after a funeral
service at the Jerry Williams Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, congratulations are to
be passed along to Greater Media--whose
Boston studios, it should be noted, are
just down Morrissey Blvd. from Howie's
fave newspaper (just kidding), the
Boston Globe-Democrat...
Love the inverted masthead. Talk about distressing news for WRKO.
The last show they had left to keep them afloat and the smug losers running the place thought they could play contract games with someone holding all the cards.
I really do miss listening to quality talk in the AM since the Finneran disaster, which is rolling downhill without any brakes.
This move will put the last nail in Tommy Taxes' talk show career coffin and I bet Howie is drooling over that eventuality.
Thank you, Thank you. I think either a Hondo DVD or a girt certificate is in order for having picked WRKO in the death pool.
Time to get your Death Pool picks in for the next round. Who will it be, Julie, Jason, Finneran, or somebody else?
Clearly the wheels are off at RKO. I know that I speak for many when I say I'm glad to be out of there and into a great private sector position. By the way, don't give Coffee Boy all the credit for the nose dive into the abyss, it started with that stooge who everybody thought was a genius named Mike Elder. Remember he is the dope that brought in Dimwitt DePetro and Pork pie Scotto. All Jason did was accelerate down Elder's path and fly right off the cliff. It is hard to imagine that Entercom could not see this train wreck coming.
The only thing left to do is clean house, beg Rod Fritz to come back hire for a lively news/talk format with lots of live interviews with news makers and pundits in studio and more importantly on location and hope it works. If it doesn't work you can change the company name from Entercom to Intercom, because they will not reach as many people as the Intercom in Mass General at midnight.
The Carr that drives Boston Home;
will now be The Carr that drives Boston to work.
Will Howie take Sandy with him?
He may be tired of her interruptions.
I'm sure he'll take Col (Fried Clam Man) Dave
Hunt with him.
Hooray! I knew it would happen sooner or later, but this is a great day for Boston. Yes, I know Howie will still be on early morning, but very few people are up and really listening that early in the day? So essentially he is gone.
The day when some balance and perspective in the media is surely coming back! It took less time than any of us thought--less than a year after the Democrats took back the congress, the Bush era in the media is now going also.
How long before the Herald dumps him also? It will be a great day when we can finally turn on the radio, newspaper, or tv without hearing the party line talk that Bush makes them run.
By the way, a few weeks ago someone else was posting using my name. Knock it off, please.

Am I the only person that is not surprised by this? I've been thinking Howie would either jump to FM or do his show ala Gary LaPierre, from FL for a long time now.
What I do wonder is how much the opportunity to destroy Finneran's radio career factored into this.
Is there a death pool on Kahn or Wolfe's jobs?
GVS
are you really that much of a moonbat as you sound?
balance in the media? what kind of murky Kool-aid have you been swigging?
you are just another granola munching, old liberal who thinks the polar ice caps are melting!
and you probably still have a Kerry Edwards bumper sticker on your Prius--LOL
go back to the woods where you belong, you won't have to listen to him out there
I wonder besides the money being the big draw;
if all the factors mentioned above played into the move or at aleast give Howie pause for
satisfaction.
1) His disdain for Finneran and being on the
same station with the convicted felon.
2) Compete versus Finneran
3) Keep Barnicle from getting the job at WTTK
4) Do the show remotely; didn't Jay Sev... do that for awhile from NY on WTTK. (don't remember - I thought maybe he was uncovered like Gary Lap...)
5) If you tell people upfront you're broadcasting from FL - I don't see a problem. what's the difference
>>very few people are up and really listening that early in the day?
we are. those of us who work for a living.
I'm a long time listener of RKO originally from Brighton.
I was sad and sickened when they hired the felon. His voice seems very nervous on the air and I feel his show is mostly on interest to hacks.
A sad day but we will enjoy the demise of tomy taxes.
