A few days ago, I was sent what appeared to be a throwaway line that was allegedly edited out of a Boston Herald story on the Dennis & Callahan lockout.
It didn't seem like a big deal, but someone felt strongly that I know about it:
``It's one thing to be a pig,'' a source close to the negotiations sniffed, ``however, hogs tend to get slaughtered.
But it must have meant something, because there was real concern over how I obtained the cutting-room quote.
In addition, I later heard from a different source that the line was almost certainly uttered by one of our favorite PR hack-flaks, but likely removed from the story after the paper pondered the ramifications of what sounds threatening in nature.
Now, it's a simple matter of putting two and two together: the hogs were slaughtered! It happened last night!
Clearly, Mr Hack-Flak was delivering a coded warning based on Entercom's negotations with Nassau, which left D & C up Crap Creek without a paddle.
Far from a throwaway line, it was a clear foreshadowing of events that were to take place later in the week.
