Expose The Hypocrisy

Ogonowski Has A Chance

Here's another big story that got lost in last week's breaking news overload: a survey shows retired Air Force Lt. Colonel Jim Ogonowski, a Republican, within striking distance of Dem Niki Tsongas in the upcoming Fifth Congressional District special election.

He's currently 10 points behind her, meaning Jim has a real chance of overcoming Tsongas, depending on how he runs his campaign. So far, I think he's done a good job. Red State also believes he has a chance. So does The Hill.

No wonder Deval was so worried about Ogonowski's presence at his now- infamous 9-11 ceremony! Governor Patrick must have seen similar internal polling data and panicked. Jim's brother John, a pilot, was murdered on that horrible day.

Apparently, voters are seeing through the sham candidacy of Niki Tsongas, which is merely based on who she married some years ago and not on any political experience or even past interest of her own. That's how the machine works here: it's all about the surname.

For local talkers who actually dare to believe our current one-party rule is an embarrassment to Massachusetts, this presents a dilemma. Ordinarily, the easiest route is to adopt the standard defeatist attitude. That keeps station managers happy.

Here, however, that's going to be a tough sell. If Ogonowski really takes off from this point, how will they ignore the race?

In the old days of Boston talk radio, hosts really did enjoy the freedom to state their own opinions, even if it resulted in occasional GOP victories.

Now, however, most local hosts are hired and fired based on either a partisan allegiance to Beacon Hill's power structure or because they serve a role as an ineffective, token "conservative", important for the station's overall imaging.

Here's the SaveWRKO challenge to local talkers: who will have the courage to admit Ogonowski has a bona fide chance of winning this special election? Who will devote some real time to this topic?

Look at it this way: if Jim does pull off a victory and you guys were too afraid to play a role, you will all look like fools. In addition, that will simply underscore how irrelevant our badly-damaged talk radio medium has become locally. Is that what you want?

BY THE WAY, the survey data is fascinating: it shows Fifth District voters are wildly unhappy with the Democrat-led Congress. Only 15% are pleased with Pelosi, Reid & Co. Survey USA believes the upcoming vote could be one where voters send Dems a message.

You right wing-nuts have zero chance, my myopic friend.

By electing Deval and ensuring that Dems control the legislature, the judiciary, and the corner office, we have solidified our grip on power in MA.

We will do whatever it takes (in a Bill Belichickian manner) to get Tsongas elected. Witness our snub of Ogie on Sept. 11th festivities this past year. And we have not even unleashed the Big Labor hounds yet!

Ogie is toast, face it. Nikki is winning this, ahem, "race."

Moonbats united!

The above had to be satire of course (what lib would use the term moonbat for himself? :) )

One party rule stinks. The funniest part was
last year when Dems urged people to "take back the state" and elect Deval. Uh, they already had about 92 per cent Dems in office, just not the governorship--take back? They already pretty much controlled it!

Well I don't live in the district, and I'd like to believe that this race could be competitive.

But with a Dem. who has a very well known name and an unknown Republican, the only for the Republican to win this seat is to spend a lot of $$ (a) telling a very compelling personal story and (2) getting out the message that it's a referendum on the Dem. leadership in Washington.

Good luck.

Not trying to get away from the Tsongas question, but . . .

What's the over / under on Howie being back for any part of this week? Will WRKO Lock Out Capin' Graff?

What excatly did WRKO / Entercomm threaten D & C with that prevents them from doing the same thing Capin' Graff is doing and move to another station?

Is the Capin's move final? Is there still something in the works that would make him stay at WRKO? Have the management at WRKO thrown in the towel?

Howie was seen at the Ipswich Chowderfest on Saturday sporting a "WTKK" hat. I was there and saw it. Say what you want, but Howie's fans love him....

Ho-ho is a fat, cheap bast*d who throws around nickels like they are manhold covers.

Also, my Uncle Tommy says that Ho-ho talks tough but is a paper tiger. For example, he talks all tough about Kevin Weeks -- but everyone knows that Ho-ho pissed his pants when Weeks was being interviewed nearby about his book.

Someone explain to me why one-party Democratic rule in Massachusetts is a bad thing, while one-party Republican rule in Florida is a good thing.

Posted by: Stump at September 17, 2007 06:15 PM

There's really no parallel. Florida has a number of Dem elected officials. Think about Broward County and Miami-Dade, try getting a Republican elected there. Even Utah and Montana voters are willing to elect Democrats. The only true one-party state is Massachusetts.

I believe that Lt. Col. Jim has a real good chance of pulling up in percentage. Both candidates come with so many emotional satchels. Not living in their district it is tough to know how the people are turning. God speed to both of them.

.....There's really no parallel. Florida has a number of Dem elected officials.....

Florida has a (R) governor, lt governor, secty of state, attorney general, and overwhelming, bulletproof (R) majorities in both the house and senate. And, for the most part, FLA Repubs actually act and think like real, honest-to-God, Republicans. Heck, most FLA dems are to the right of Mass repubs.

If you actually believe FLA isn't a one-party- rule state, I admire the extent of your self-delusion.

If this was the way things were in Massachusetts, it would be one party rule the way I like it and I'd have no problem with it.

And neither, of course, would you.

There are 10 Democrats in Florida's current congressional delegation.

Brian, having lived in Fla. for awihle, and found out early on that Mass. Government is absolutely corruption free compared to Fla. The depths to which I have never seen until this Bush Admin. It got to a point where we did not want to vote because there was NO ONE who could pass a simple smell test. Indictments were an almost hourly occurance. Illegalities at the Polls on election day the likes you could never imagine. BTW all of the above was accomplished and participated in by BOTH parties.

Sir-TSP,

Florida, someone breaks into your house and you defend yourself, they go to jail.

Mass, someone breaks into your house and you defend yourself, YOU go to jail.

Plus, we get to pay a state income tax.

Ain't liberalism a b****. ;)

Yes, and not one of them has any constitutional governing duties within the state.

You were discussing one-party-rule, and in Florida, the Republican party makes all the rules.

I have the feeling that if 3 members of the Mass congressional delegation became Republican overnight that it wouldn't change your opinion on one-party-rule in Mass.
