Entercom Still Sinking

After a brief rally attempt last week failed, Entercom shares are now poised to finish out the year at the lowest level ever. The WRKO / WEEI owner has been on a slow and steady slide for a long time, with no bottom seemingly in sight.

Closing on Friday down 44 cents at $13.71, it represents a further loss of $13.5m in market capitalization for the company. Year-to-date, ETM shares are down more than 50 percent. It once traded as high as $70 per share.

Overall, it was a brutal year for radio stocks, as Wall Street largely gave up on the medium's future. But Entercom stands out as one of the industry's worst performers.

Entercom will continue to point to WEEI's success as validation of their scorched earth policy. Of course, they've gutted their news/info station, but hey-I'm carping,I mean it's only "news"..that type of stuff is for like old people or nerds or something. Why talk about Afghanaraq or Iranistan when the Pats could go like 16-0,dude.

Entercom represents all that is awful about radio in the past quarter century. Of course,WEEI is a success, but it's content is LCD. I figure that's the template for the new WRKO...it will get worse. Savage will probably retire next year, can only imagine what will replace him.

If Sausage does retire, that automatically raises the level of intelligence on RKO's programming.

That's "Dr." Sausage to you.

This posting is somewhat off-topic, but does involve WRKO and is time sensitive, so if you please.

On December 27, I wrote:

“Finally, I noted on the WRKO website that they are a sponsor of the Back Bay Gala on New Year’s Eve, a.k.a. the Baby Boomer Ball. We have gone for the past two years, not because of WRKO, but because it is a nice event, and hope to go this year. I mention it because if any poster to this site goes, look me up. We’ll be mostly on the dance floor and I have gray hair and a trimmed beard and will be wearing a flashy black tie with champagne glasses and a party motif on it, so stop and say Hi.”

I’m changing my distinguishing characteristic from a party tie to a black bowtie with the New England Patriots logo on it to celebrate the Victory this past Saturday.

My recollection is that this is the first year WRKO has been a sponsor of this event, so it should be interesting to see what kind of statement they make. I will be the “fly on the wall,” though I guess I have already revealed my secret identity. Happy New Year.

erosion of entercom stock good for us bad for jj

how i laugh when they think they can hoodwink us all like they do by spoonfeeding us more unintelligible gibberish each week. do they think we are npr listeners, by goodness and by golly

Brian, with all due respect: Why do you allow nonsensical posts by those whose seeming only interest is spamming here? Every comment that is submitted to this blog is screened beforehand. I am perplexed how my non-spam comments have to be screened when the gibberish of others also gets through.

Brian, with all die respect:Why do you allow nonsensical posts by losers whose idea of a witty name is "JazzOrganist". That creature is a tremendous bore and the posts it ;eaves are crap.

Crap: low quality. Negative interjection.
Take your pick. Crap will still sell papers
and or blogs.

Brian, care to explain why the above retort against me was allowed to appear here?

Brian, care to explain why the lame creep JazzOrganist was allowed in any form to appear here?

Posted by: Mick at January 1, 2008 08:28 PM

I'm speaking from the grave to show my outrage and disgust towards the whiny fool who claims to be a jazz organist. Take the diapers off you sissy.
Keep doing what you do Brian.

Jazz Organist- Come on, no whining. I have stuff thrown at me all day here. You shouldn't worry about it because look who posts here. I mean, this place is full of goons who think DePetro was comedic gold on the radio.

Posted by: WRKO Staffer at January 1, 2008 10:20 PM

Staffer, I gotta admit (albeit reluctantly) that I did listen to DePetro. I did not like him, perhaps, but I did find him entertaining to a degree. Does that qualify me as a "goon" (I hope not)?

staffer, (julie / jason)

I'll ask once again, given the list you gave me of the worst radio has to offer, are you saying the felon and crossover dolt are some of the best radio has to offer?

If you do believe that, I think you'll find one of the goons of which you write in your mirror.

Mention Depetro and so-called "staffer" is all over you. As far as I can tell Depetro has a lot of fans on this site. But we're all goons.
Tell me one other who was funnier than Depetro on WRKO.

Posted by: Anti-Braude-goon at January 2, 2008 03:48 PM

Rushbo is funnier than anyone on air imo.

Posted by: LooseLips at January 2, 2008 04:22 PM

DePetro is funny for those who think the Nickleback is a good rock band.
