Photographer Says Image Was Stolen

Just heard from Erika Sievert, the Boston-based photographer whose image was used in the E Reese Hopkins photo found at WRKO.com. Apparently, she had no idea her photo had been swiped.

Here's what she had to say:

Hi Brian,

Thank you very much for bringing this to my attention! Permission to use my photograph was never granted to WRKO. All images on my blog are copyrighted and should not be used in any manner without my consent.

Thank you,

Erika Sievert

Here's our previous post on the subject.

I guess defense attorneys looking for work might find a welcome mat at WRKO.

Lets see how long it takes before they change it. Or compensate her for it. Be interested to follow up on this in a week

Speaking of laziness , here's the text of Howie's program for today off of the WRKO website - didn't they do this on Tuesday?

Thursday December 20th

1st Hour
Tom Finneran sobbed yesterday as he battled to salvage his legal career from the “scar tissue” that being a convicted felon left on his family and Teflon reputation as almighty speaker of the House. During Sunday’s “Meet the Press” on NBC, Romney got misty-eyed when he recalled how he “pulled over and literally wept” in 1978 upon learning that his Mormon church would finally accept blacks. Romney also teared up yesterday when he recalled seeing a dead GI returning home from Iraq in a casket and imagining it was one of his sons. Do you think more or less of men who cry?

See, THIS is a story. Calling an obvious illustration "faked" was bogus, but calling them out for disrespecting the intellectual property of Ms. Sievert is completely fair and newsworthy.

WRKO owes Miss Sievert compensation for the use of her photo in an advertisement. Period. A graphic designer can not simply steal an image and use it as they please without consideration of who owns the copyright. There are legal precedents and if Miss Sievert wishes to persue the issue she'd win her case.
More than likely WRKO would settle out of court.
