I caught a few minutes of "Crossover Negro" ™ this morning and heard him ragging on Deval, so I gotta say I appreciated at least that.
PS there's another poster using "Dave" on here; you can tell us apart by my link.
I write in defense of Todd.
Simply because he has substituted in every local time slot does not mean he has an "addiction" to hosting round-the-clock shows. Since WRKO has so few choices of guest hosts to begin with, Feinburg was the only in-house option and, thus, most convenient.
"Fill-in-burg" is an undue pun on the name and the person. Yes, he's filled-in all over the place but, in a way, I compliment him for his versatility and willingness to jump from mornings to evenings to keep the programming afloat and at least somewhat entertaining. And yes, he frequently criticized Deval himself.
So far, no evidence has been procured on this blog that he's filled-in out of blind loyalty to WRKO or that he's deliberately put forth "fluffy" topics on-air to avoid criticizing the liberal elites. Thus, the criticism of Feinburg puzzles me.
Face it: Feinburg was a PC version of John DePetro. One who was more content to dance to the company tune that J&J played (unlike John who kowtowed to no many or woman).
DePetro told them to f off. Scotto told them to f off, too. Those guys were way more talented than Todd. "Brown-nose" Feinburg stuck around and asked "thank you, can I have another?" J&J like that, but it sounds like even major league sucknig up has its limits.
Todd used to be a joy to listen to, but I no longer can stand him. Howie lacks the common sense he fought so long for me to believe he had (the TTK lawsuit said it all. He just showed no common sense). Jay is a disaster. He used to be someone to listen to, until he continued to stretch the truth. I believe nothing he says now. Imus is a broken man. The show stinks. He should retire.
All in all the radio in the town is pretty bad. TTK needs to reinvent their format. Stale, with some questionable hosts. RKO is long gone. I left 680 the day they fired those talented news people, and then decided to hire the PR person from the Big Dig.
I think the criticism of Todd is fair. In my opinion he is like John Stossel of 60 minutes fame. The guy makes so much sense it leaves you with no place to go. He's got the issue defined, debated and resolved before you get to chime in. So Todd frequently leaves me going..huh? good point Todd..but it doesn't make me want to call in or necessarily listen to callers agree with him for 3 hours. So, nice guy, but he could use a little controversy or caffine or something.
Jim Braude is a moonbat's moonbat.
I am no fan of Feinburg and I have posted on that subject numerous times. His Christmastime firing by the Entercom dirtbags, however, is a new low even by their own extraordinarily low standards (see: Last year's Christmas Massacre of the entire news staff).
I mean, come on. The man has a family to provide for. He has done every possible air-shift and fill-in role you have thrown at him. The least you could do is show him a little respect by letting him know (ala Scotto) that his tenure was coming to an end. It IS the holiday season after all. Be a Mensch for a change, Jason.
I think the bottom line to all of this is RKO has just given up. The felon is unlistenable. Hopkins , as far as I can tell, is the black Jim Severin- broadcasting from outside MA, proffering opinions on subjects he knows nothing about, no finnesse, and no experience as a Massachusetts resident. Sorry, but you can't do local talk if you're not a local!. Howie's just mailing it in- The old Howie would have lambasted the Felon's crying jag & advil addiction for 4 hours. Now its just veiled snide comments. Website updates on Howies page are nonexistant.
WRKO- The eunich of talk radio - no more balls.
BigBish,
Good point on Howie's take on the Felon's emotional breakdown. In the pre-WTKK lawsuit days, Howie ripped The Felon with regularity. Remember, "I want you to think of me as the parole officer you should have had."? Now he has been neutered into oblique comments and inside jokes when it comes to Finne-bomb.
I listened to this morning's opening bit on Reese Hopkins and quickly turned over to Michael Graham. The mock indignation Hopkins exhibits over local Boston issues is unlistenable. Why would I listen to an out of town guy complain about the city's response to a snowstorm that HE wasn't even present for? Why does his opinion on Mumbles matter to a local resident? I live in NH but I work in Boston so Menino's administration does impact me (especially when it snows).
If I didn't know better, I would bet that the "management" of WRKO has paid more than a passing bit of attention to this site and has seen the comments concerning the station's apparent lack of willingness to rock the boat of the entrenched Liberal establishment in Boston. So what do they do? They hire a guy from New York and put him on the air with the mandate that he voice outrage with city and state government. Sorry, I'm not buying it. Let Hopkins find his own style - whatever it is - and sink or swim with it. I don't need someone patronizing me with mock outrage.
One other question for the Coffee Boy: Is this all you get after a "nation-wide" search for radio talent?
Wow I'm shocked!! After everything Todd did for RKO during Howie's Hiatus what a slap in the face. Other than Howie he was the only host I actually looked forward to listening too.
And something is awfully fishy about this Reese guy... does anyone else think he sounds alot like Jimmy Myers (just as unlistenable).
Boston talk radio is at a crossroads: local talent is either all horrible, or trending that way; no one wants or trusts an 'outsider' trying to morph himself or herself into a 'local'; and the whole 'Political Correctness' thing has neutered the industry into the equivalent of lo-cal chicken broth. Best bumper sticker seen last weekend in Biddeford, Maine: 'Political Correctness Offends Me.'
I want that bumper sticker.

Your right "slap in the face"
I am convinced Entercom is a "Gang".
They are bandits pirates the underworld pretty face boys with deadly toys moral freaks wielding melting power and flinging it hoping for third degree burns on anyone who crosses them!!!!
And Howie is my hero again as he continues to whisper sweet nothingness into a microphone as Rome burns!!!
HAA ZAA!
Just a copy of the e-mail I sent to the wrko management. Not that it will matter...

Dear WRKO Management,
I just wanted to express my concern over the departure of Todd Feinburg. I have gone from listening to WRKO from the time I woke up in the morning to the time I left work in the evening typically 12 hours daily. Now, with Todd leaving I will only be listening for the 4 hours you have Howie Carr on.
Other than Howie Carr, Todd is the only talent you have. Although I have tried, Finneran is unlistenable and the only reason I tune into Rush is because he was sandwiched between the 2 talk shows I enjoyed the most. Reese is certainly no substitute for Todd’s well spoken style and local flavor. I believe you are making a mistake letting him go if he moves to another local station I will follow.
