Expose The Hypocrisy

WRKO Faked Hopkins Image

Thanks to the detective work of several readers, we now know for sure WRKO faked the image of Reese Hopkins standing in front of the Red Line.

The original photo was taken by Erika Sievert, an award-winning local photog who sells these images from her Boston:Uncommon blog site.

An image of Hopkins, the New Jersey hip-hop promoter recently hired to host midmornings at WRKO, was superimposed to make it appear he was inside the T station.

Whether Entercom paid for the photo or merely swiped it isn't known, as an email to Sievert has so far not been returned.

From our friends at Entercom, what did you expect?

As I mentioned before, I was curious how long it took them to photoshop the picture.

Dealing with graphics on a daily basis, it's not difficult to figure out it was a fake.

Julie, Jason, or whomever, I have his image, removed from the Red Line, available at a cost that you can drop onto almost any image from Boston (With Hopkins looking left or right.). E-Mail Brian with your contact info and he'll pass it on to me.

Brian, frankly, this post is a bit ridiculous. To make a big deal out of a relatively trivial picture like this takes away from the bigger stories you could be hammering away at.

I disagree. It underscores the firm's sleazy way of doing business, with an assumption that the public is too stupid to know better or to be able to do anything about it.

I can't agree with you more Brian. Much like "The Best and Brightest" that believed things were local when they are out of Sagg Harbor.

You've hired a guy to do a local show, don't try to pass him off as local when he's working out of Fort Lee NJ. It speaks VOLUMES of what the station thinks of it's listeners.

Has anybody figured out what a "crossover negro" is yet?

Interesting- He has no e-mail either, even though the RKO website says he does & lists it as rhopkins@wrko.com. I get undeliverable messages back.

I don't know what the crossover thing is or where he crossed over from. The important thing is that he crosses back over soon. Although to be fair, I haven't / won't listen. I can't take it. It could be worse though, I could be an RKO advertiser instead of just a stupid listener.

Come on, now. Anyone could see that this was a photo illustration and not an attempt at deception. A greater question was if they needed approval to use the underlying image and whether they actually got it. THAT is a potential story. Calling it a "fake" is unwarrented because it wasn't meant to be an factual representation.

I can hear children on the playground:

Cross-O-ver Neee-Gro

Cross-O-ver Neee-Gro

Cross-O-ver Neee-Gro

Sounds like the Urban Cooties.

Reese is a personal friend of mine; I met him during his days at Power 104.1 in Hartford, CT. He has an interesting past, and if you search his name on Google, you can find out what the Crossover name refers to. He is an intelligent, thought-provoking guy who, even if I did not know him personally, I would still find entertaining and refreshing in the world of "talk anything." Give the guy a chance. Furthermore, he lived in Ft Lee, NJ, but was in Boston all week to do the show. Now he's got an apartment in the area and his family will be joining him at the conclusion of the school year. Not enough drama for you? Watch the next "Whose Baby is It" episode of Maury for that!
