I mess with you sometimes, Maloney, but I seriously feel that Uncle Tommy is indeed an improvement over Scott Allen Miller. The guy was a colossal bore. At least UT has a discernible pulse!
Even if some of you didn't care for DePetro, Scotto, Moe, Todd, Peter Blute, or any of the many others who have been sacked, weren't they infinitely better than what replaced them?
If only some didn't like them, why are they gone? The alternative has been shows where "only some like them".

Yes, Brian, I believe they were ALL better, and none deserved to lose their job. I don't even listen to RKO anymore (well, okay, except for Rush)!
Makes you wonder if this assault on RKO is a hit? The current management crew was sent here to burry it, not grow it.

Management very rarely appreciates good talent. In a world of bad "delbert" style bosses, radio seems to have cornered the market on this particular brand of idiocy.
I never liked Miller (as a host, I don;t know the man), but at least he wasn't a felon.
Moe was good, so was Spencer Hughes, Bluto was decent, and has improved his game greatly since going over to WCRN in Worcester. Todd busted his a@@ covering for Howie and generally saving the station's bacon for a while and then got booted too.
Depetro, on the other hand, always seemed to be a whiney baby to me. I emailed Mike Elder about it once (rememebr him? he got canned too!), but he didn't agree. Things were NOT in any way perfect under him, but were a damned site better than now.
My two cents, for what it (not) worth.
YES! All were so much more better than their flacid replacements. They are gone because WRKO has become a disaster...it had nothing to do with their performances...I mean, isn't that the total impotice for this site? If you can't grasp that than you do not understand what WRKO WAS and the pile o' crap it is now. C'mon!
DePetro had to have had better ratings than ANYONE in his slot (as did they all, I bet!)! I miss him...he liked to instigate, but that is what made him so fun and how he was sacked was really pathetic! I hope he wins his lawsuit! Scotto was good, too...I didn't always agree, but he was such a gent and I thought he was whip-smart...this was mostly showcased when he jousted with the brainbox Steve Bailey. I liked Todd alot and he played Devils Advocate better than anyone and I even got to enjoy Peter Blute...last spring I started listening to his Worcester show...it wasn't the best but he has doofus chatterboxes for sidekicks...couldn't be helped. Moe was an institution.
Listen to Michael Graham in the AM. He's great! Did you mean Vay-Cay Jay? Why, he's on vacation of course! I listened all week 'cuz Graham filled in for him! I'm glad DePetro got an award. He was obnoxious, but I really liked his show! He really got people going and knew how to have listeners interact!
Peter Blute wasn't fired. He left on his own.
Depetro was good in Boston. He is just a huge homophobe and can't manage to hid it enough to keep a job.

I like Lou Merloni, don't get me wrong, but a bit hypocritical. Depetro was hilarious and hard hitting. The jokers they have now like to pretend they're impersonating people, even if they're going to a live news conference.
I remember right afterwards JD apologized, and he said "Jonny doesn't need another vacation", but you could hear Jason's thoughts as if they were real..I've got you now Depetro. They were gunning for him and he was a gonner. Next thing you know...Todd. Then Depetro fired.
As a listener I was pissed off. Nobody at wrko asks us nor did they care. We invest a little something into these guys and make certain connections and develop routines around certain shows. NO consideration for the listeners whatsoever. I couldn't tell you who was on tkk opposite JD..anyone?
I mean, these guys have program managers right? If the show isn't going in the right direction can't they steer it a slightly different way and not just whack the talent and hose the listeners? No they just give the guy all the rope in the world and let him hang himself. ridiculous.
Like to see him on tkk in that time slot. Get rid of the mummy and put Graham there. I'd make a pledge never to dial in 680AM again if tkk did that for me.
As a queer man, I was not insulted by DePetro's comments about Grace Ross. She is a fat lesbian. If he has called her a fat heterosexual he would not have been canned. In general, though, I am against any real anti-gay or anti-Jew venom (you know, like the kind spewed by my oldest and dearest friend Celtic Frost).
Depetro was fine. He had great ratings in Prov when they hired him at RKO, he did a good job. He was barely there. This whole small market/large market thing in regards to Depetro or anyonone really is stupid. Do you really think Finneran, Egan/Braude, Severin even Howie would be on the air in NYC or LA? Not a chance. All that matters is if they rate in Boston.
