Expose The Hypocrisy

Globie Magazine Rips WTKK

While I agree with a few of the points made here, I'm not sure how I feel about the messenger.

Why won't the Globies rip apart Entercom stations these days? Is the relationship now that cozy?

Dear WTKK:

You appear to be "Boston's Talk Evolution." Or so say your advertising geniuses, anyway. I admit to being confused. Your typical broadcast day, which has you tied for 11th place in the market, according to the last Arbitron book, consists of the following: the renovated Imus Wrinkle Farm in morning drive; a guy named Graham who is working to become a wit and, thus far, has made it only halfway; a pair of apologetic demi-liberals at midday; and Jay Severin, the Sage of Sag Harbor who thinks Hillary Clinton is a communist but is far more concerned about the size of her thighs, still on evening drive.

He's followed by a woman who sounds like she's shouting her program off the back porch of a three-decker in Revere. Later at night, you run a recorded program by Laura Ingraham; in other words, it's a call-in show to which nobody in your audience can call in. Does this make any sense? And even if they could call, how is WTKK different from the festival of sniggering Caucasians over on the AM? If this is the evidence that talk radio is evolving, well, it pretty plainly hasn't yet developed opposable thumbs. More to the point, though, what is this completely conventional dreck doing on my FM dial?

It's bad enough that this cheaply produced cheese eliminated AM Top 40. Now, it's beginning to filter over onto the frequencies through which Iron Butterfly once flitted. FM used to be the place where we all fled to get away from the likes of Bobby Goldsboro. Then it became the place we fled to get away from the likes of Jay Severin. Now there's no place to hide. Evolution isn't supposed to be this brutal.

Charles P. Pierce

I honestly think that there is a story behind this story. Charlie Pierce used to occasionally appear on Eagan and Braude (back around 2001 or so). I wonder if he wasn't considered for some position or was burned somehow by WTKK/

The writer should just keep tuned in to NPR, where his nuanced, highly-evolved viewpoints are affirmed every time he comes to.

AHH THEY TOOK A CHEAP SHOT AT THE am DIAL TOO, BUT THEY MUST HAVE MISSED THE NEWS OF "REESE THE CROSSOVER NEGRO HOPKINS" (reeses self given title not my words)over at Guest Street.

"how is WTKK different from the festival of sniggering Caucasians over on the AM?

And when in Rome, the writer should do as the Romans do, and use American english, not British english. Any word with "nigg" in it does not get looked on favorably regardless of it's definition

"He's followed by a woman who sounds like she's shouting her program off the back porch of a three-decker in Revere."

That is a pretty good line. As I like to say, McPhee has a face for radio and a voice for newspapers. Words don't flow from her mouth they literally stumble.

Pierce is a parlor pink in a Hawaiian shirt,a bloated Michael Moore of sports, who in 1997 when he found out that Tiger Woods wasn't a leftist, tried to get Woods in trouble by repeating a lesbian joke that he told in private. Pierce is good pal of Jimmy "Sadiki" Myers as well,WTTK's weekend token.

Another liberal hypocrite who whines about misogyny and racism...yet appears on Bob "give her a smack" Ryan's program. Wow,white Bob Ryan advocated the smack of a black woman...and yet somehow Pierce can still appear on his show. PHONIES!

Wow.....just, Wow. The more I read of this letter, the more I began to agree with most of it.

Imus in the Morning is a shell of its former self. I used to love it, now it has become one big steaming pile of suckage.

Michael Graham is funny, but not THAT funny. Let's just say that now I can see why he no longer relies on stand-up comedy to pay the bills.

Egan and Braude (now, "Jim and Margery" - woo hoo!) is flatly unlistenable. The periodic "Ask the Governor" segments with "Tax it all" Deval and the segments with AG Martha Coakley should be grounds to have Jim & Margery arrested for prostituting themselves.

Jay's schtick has become tired and predictable. I used to dismiss other postings on this site that complained about Jay's constant rantings about his extensive political experience and his equally extensive sexual conquests. I used to think he was funny and "cutting edge" even though he affects a hyper-pronunciation of the English language that makes him sound vaguely fey. I used to. Now I do not. Any guy who talks incessantly about how many chicks he has bedded has probably been with fewer women than anyone else in the room (or, in Jay's case, in the listening audience).

I have seen Jay in person and if HE is able to get lucky with as many women as he claims then there are an awful lot of women who are in desperate need of laser eye surgery.

By the way, I think Michelle McPhee is hot. As in, "shouting off the back porch of a three-decker in Revere" hot. But still hot, nonetheless. Then again, I tend to like girls with screeching voices, annoying accents and low self-esteem. Or, at least 2 out of those 3.

Laura Ingraham should be aired live in place of Egan & Braude. She could give Rush Limbaugh at least the appearance of some competition in the midday.

Other than that, I really enjoy listening to WTKK - Boston's Talk Evolution.

On Pierce:
"The lady doth protest too much, methinks"

Such pathetic prose n'er have seen in a long while.

The writer is delusional, has visions of grandeur far beyond his writing skills and has some pathetic motivation which must be gift certificates to the Country Buffet or the like.

Pierce attempts to wound Goliath yet merely comes up with a kidney stone which wretches at his career, and Goliath strides away unscathed.

Pierce must busy himself with soliciting his neighbors for ingredients for his stone soup as his cup has been most neatly emptied with that sorry work. And next time the editors notice he is about to deliver another journalistic arm fart spare us will you please?

"He's followed by a woman who sounds like she's shouting her program off the back porch of a three-decker in Revere."

Oh charlie! You sound like a Liberal elitist.

You attack the white man and the working class people.Good job.

Every time I see charlie he looks like he has slept in his clothes for the last few days.

Classic post. You had me at "journalistic arm fart".

When I used to buy the Globe, I couldn't believe that a newspaper would actually pay (and feature) such a small column from a named writer. The graphics take up 25% of the space. I happen to agree with many of his TKK comments, but Pierce is another weight around the neck of the drowning Globe. I have read longer and more insightful comments here on this blog than Charlie produces for the Globe magazine. TKK and The Globe are located next to each other in Morrissey Blvd.. Charlie's angst could just stem from being cut off by someone at TKK when he was entering the Globe parking lot... It's all about the ego in today's world.

Charlie's rumpled appearance reminds me of my HS chemistry teacher (a "brother" at my Catholic school) who deflowered me...

so i will always read his stuff, although not nec agree with it but he is right on on Vay-Cay-Jay the big phoney baloney moroney

Posted by: joy at April 28, 2008 07:54 AM

How come he went by "Charlie" when he wrote for the Herald, and is "Charles" when he writes for the Globe?

Posted by: John at April 28, 2008 08:59 AM

Wow far to the left is this slovenly lump of crap Pierce? He calls Braude...a "demi-liberal"

DEMI????? If Braude is a demi-lib..what's the other half,Communist?

Posted by: Really Right at April 28, 2008 12:43 PM

As far as I know, the Globe still doesn't allow its writers on WEEI. At least that used to be the case.

Posted by: JR at April 28, 2008 03:19 PM

Dear Boston Globe,

With your circulation down over 8% according to the latest numbers I think you should worry about your own house before addressing someone elses shortcomings.

If she had lived, Mary Jo Kopechne would be 66 years old. Through his tireless work as a legislator, Edward Kennedy would have brought comfort to her in her old age by bringing back the Fairness Doctrine."
Why does anybody pay attention to this Charles P. Pierce ?
