How Low Can You Go?

Let's do the Reese Hopkins limbo: how low can you go?

Just try and sneak below Reese's record-low ratings! Based on data obtained by SaveWRKO, Hopkins scored the kind of numbers any last-place team would envy.

In the 25-54 adult demographic, the New Jersey hip hop promoter turned in a stunningly tiny 0.6 share for the 10am hour, followed by an even more miniscule 0.3 at 11am.

By contrast, Howie is still generating a 2.6 in afternoon drive, while Michael Savage gets a 3.0. Morning drive as a whole (6-10am) is down to a pathetic 1.1.

Has to be racism...

Congratulations on the .6 and .3! Remarkable for the level of talent.

Brian,
The real question here is, why are Jason and Julie still employed? They've got fat salaries that cannot be justified! There are sales managers and other sales-related positions with salaries in the $250-$300k range. WHY ARE THEY STILL EMPLOYED?

J and J have already proven to everyone that they know NOTHING about quality radio programming. They've destroyed WRKO, and basically have become the laughingstock of the Boston radio community. They have no idea how many people in this city are laughing at them and talking behind their backs.

In my business I speak to many, many people each day, many of whom are hard working radio salespeople. I'm a former advertiser, listener and fan of the once-fabulous WRKO.

My radio on low on my desk at work must be giving him the tenths-of-a-point.

Bob, if J&J are so inept then why is EEI so successful? These 2 earn their salaries every day, believe you me. You have no clue how hard it is to run a radio empire in a middling market like Boston. The major markets are actually easier than the tier 2 markets. So get a clue, Bobby.

How do these numbers compare to, say, 1,3 & 5 years ago? The Felon and Reese are good for 30 seconds before I change. I've cut way back on Howie. He used to have me for my 45 minute commute. I've been a listener since the beginning. Now I cut to XM during commercials and may or may not switch back before I get home.

Howie Carr is again making it clear he's not happy being at 'RKO. He just played the tape of the DC Madam's mother, calling 911 to report that she found her daughter had hung herself. Howie, ever the one to incite controversy, made fun of it.

Just about every call he got after that were people very upset he had done that. One caller said
that Howie was going to hell. His response? "I'm already in hell. I've got 4 and a half years left in hell."

His Entercom contract expires in Sept. of 2012...

(trying to get fired early so he can flee to Morrissey Blvd?)

Julie's Lackey,
WEEI is so successful for many reasons, but mostly
because it is staffed by talented on-air people who know sports. They're terrific! But it's the house that Glen Ordway built, not Jason Wolfe! Not Julie Kahn.

WRKO is a Talk format.
A different animal. To program it requires an awareness of the issues, having a solid grasp of the political landscape, and an understanding that conflict caused by Conservative Talk is the spark that makes Talk radio work.

By staffing the RKO airwaves with liberal, low intellect, fluffy, no-brainer Talk hosts, instead of high-caliber intelligent hosts, the light in the WRKO beacon has gone dark. Jason and Julie do not know what they're doing.

You call it a radio empire, but they only see it as an on-air ATM that just won't give them ALL the money. THAT'S their main focus.

Tom Baker made WEEI a powerhouse. Julie came in on the back end and took all the credit. She's an empty suit. Jason is, like most short people, a raving narcissist. He obviously can't program a "News/Talk" format. That has become obvious.

Can someone please tell me who the heck this "Gonzo" guy is? What qualifies this hack to have a show on the weekend?

While I was on my regular Saturday morning pilgrimage to Home Depot, I tuned in for a bit to this idiot's show.

He spent at least 20 minutes at the beginning of his show railing on Howie. His nickname for Howie was "Mary." He kept going on and on about "Mary" being a crybaby.

It doesnt seem like a very good strategy for RKO to let their weekend fill-ins beat up on the only (relatively) successful show on their station. Howie may be mailing it in, but he still carries the pathetic station.

My favorite part of "Gonzo's" rant was when he said that if "Mary" didn't like it there, why didn't "Mary" just walk away? Huh? What rock was "Gonzo" living under last year?

Just when you thought the pickins were slim on Saturday mornings, it gets worse.

"Pink Hat" McPhee, Larry "The Recycler" Johnson, or "Gonzo." Sign me up for satelite!

Gonzo works for Boston Magazine. That means he:
1. is a liberal Democrat.
2. is a Narcissist.
3. says and does what Julie Kahn wants.
4. thinks he knows better than all of us...combined...except for Julie Kahn (his boss' wife)!
5. has more ego than talent.
6. doesn't understand that no one cares about him or BoMag.
7. really believes he's smart AND good looking.
8. thinks Tom Finneran is God.
9. thinks Howie Carr is the devil!
10.can't get a real job.

michael savage pulls a 3.0?
gee. it would have been nice to hear him last night after the sox game. i turned on just in time for the post-game wrap up and then 5 minutes of WRKO self promotions of how awesome their sox coverage is... and then at 11:10 DEAD AIR. I left the radio on just wondering if anything would come on. But no. Dead Air.

I tried to call the station but the main business number of course has no answer, the number they give out saying "if you want to be on the air" was not being answered at all... i emailed the station and asked "uh, where's Gerry Doyle or Michael Savage on the tail end of the game" and now at 2:30pm still have not received a response.

I read a book and enjoyed the silence, and fell asleep around midnight, with dead air still filling the room.

Radio is an auditory medium. It would be nice to hear something. Anything. but now on WRKO they're broadcasting silence. Simon & Garfunkle were on to something ...
