Expose The Hypocrisy

Entwistle And Talk Radio

It's no secret that one or two local talk hosts have had their spring ratings hopes pinned firmly on Neil Entwistle's shirt pocket.

But the proceedings were fairly straightforward, with the preposterous defense theory of Rachel's own murder- suicide providing the only real talk radio hot button.

Now that Entwistle has been sentenced to two life terms, there are two remaining discussion topics:

-- Will our demented Supreme Judicial Court overturn the decision on a technicality? In Massachusetts, that is always a possibility.

-- The biggie: the Bay State's lack of a death penalty has once again allowed a sick murderer to escape true punishment.

That's an easy topic for some, but what about hosts who were hired because their views matched those of management? We have several in Boston and they are once again out of sync with the average talk radio listener.

I think Neil has actually received the death penalty; He just doesn't know it yet.

Brian, you are just swell, the greatest. But the death penalty is not a deterrent. Never has been. Never will be. We need to be more enlightened, like the rest of the civilized world, and stop senseless capital punishment. I can't wait to move to France with hubby once the little cherubs get to and graduate from college... at the very least we'll get to Canada!

On the grounds that the most compassionate way to handle his incarceration, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts will allow Neil to serve his sentence in England so that his parents can visit him there. I expect the filing to happen this week......

Here's a sad commentary on Boston Talk Radio. Since WRKO is off my presets for my morning commute, I was listening to Opie & Anthony. Comedian Jim Norton was arging entrapment laws in conjunction with NBC's "To Catch A Predator" series. Here's the tragedy... it was more interesting than anything I have heard in the past few months on any station. How sad is that?

I agree with Chris 100%.

I also believe that before one of his fellow inmates delivers his deserved punishment, his, ahem, "dance card", is going to be quite full - if you get my meaning.

At least Neil will finally get to experience that varied and satisfying sex life he apparently was after. After a while he'll probably just consider it all a big pain in the ass. I hope so.

Sorry, Celticfrost, I'm tired of the argument that 'the death penalty is not a deterrent.' Nope, it isn't. It is a just punishment pure and simple, and it is insurance. It ensures that that particular killer will never again kill anyone else. Period. I don't think for a minute anyone looks at an execution and thinks, 'I'll never kill anyone, 'cuz I don't want to die.' That would take rational thinking, and we know that killers don't think the way most of us do. The death penalty serves to get sick, demented people off the earth where they can do no more harm.

Ahh the deterrent argument - which no one mentioned - almost as funny as a Family Fuy rerun.

The death penalty is about revenge and vengance. Nothing more nothing less.

Those wrapping themsulf up in the deterrent argument either defebding it or rebuking it have no understanding of the punishment to begin with.

They are simply looking for something to hang an argument on

This is my final post...so I will pull the curtain down.

I WAS THE ORIGINAL CELTIC FROST. My first posts were about Howie Carr's infidelity, cocaine abuse etc. "HUGH JASS" hijacked the handle. So any postings by Celtic Frost since March have been done by "HUGH JASS"

Brian, your failure to police this site has killed it. Farewell as a join the other former regulars in the ether.

"Will our demented Supreme Judicial Court overturn the decision on a technicality? In Massachusetts, that is always a possibility."

Yes Brain, there is also a possibility that the moon is made out of cream cheese. That analogy is about as absurd as your statement about the possibility of the SJC overturning the conviction.

Less than 5% of the murder convictions in Massachusetts have been overturned and givin the evidence the chances of it been overturned are as slim as your chances of ever hostong a talk show again.

Not one of the dozen of legal experts who have been commenting on the case have raised the possbility of the verdict being thrown out.

Sometimes, I think you come up with the material for your blog by sitting in a tree with a bag of verbs and nouns and post what ever you pull out of the bags.

Absolutely. And there's a part of me that is pretty happy about this outcome with respect to Neil's parents...who were 'sure' their son was innocent and even helped propagate that silly suicide theory. If there's such a thing as a 'Three-for-one' in prison sentences, this is it.

Au revoir, Really Right. I, for one, will really miss your lunatic antisemitic and homophobic ravings on all things radio. Maybe we can have a drink some night?

Your pal,
