Expose The Hypocrisy

Should've Known

As a dozen of you quickly let me know, Howie's apparently off this week, meaning Vay Cay season (WRKO edition) has officially begun.

Has somebody ever attempted to count the incredible amount of time off Howie and Vay Cay Jay have managed to secure in their contracts?

The upside for SaveWRKO: we'll have a great time griping about the lousy fill-ins. Will it sink to new depths this year?

Howie is back on Tuesday according to his website.

Haven't you figured it out yet??
Howie doesn't give a damn about WRKO any more. After screwing him over last year he is in the proccess of returning the favor.

I don't claim any understanding of the contract system, but if RKO fires Howie, soe that mean he is free and clear to do whatever he wants in regards to another radio gig?

I wouldn't be at all surprised if he wasn't shorting entercom stock. ;)

Are there any fill ins anyone actually thinks do a good job?
I usually like Col. Hunt but he was rough today.
I like Hedlund on Finneran, heard him today.
Gonzo is Ok too. Change station when margie is on.

I was driving in my car with a friend around 4pm and he put WRKO on. I already knew that Col. Hunt was "hosting" so I turned it off right away. He is unlistenable.

Col. Hunt is a great guy and all, but he is not a good solo radio host. Couldn't they team him up with Avi or VB if they insist on using him?

I remember Howie saying that with his new contract he had officially become a hack. The contract that TTK gave him was a sweet heart deal. Since RKO argued that they had the right to match, they did and all this time off was included. I believe that he also gets all those Monday holidays off also. RKO could have let him go but they wanted to keep him and went to court to do so. Now they have to abide by what they fought so hard to keep. And Howie smiles all the way to the bank.

These comments sound like those from sports fans who try to justify the lackluster performance of a broken down athlete by saying that the athlete is not happy with his multi million dollar contract. Howie is lazy and at the end of the line. His Herald columns are the same old recycled lines from years ago or those he "borrows" from the chump line. Col. Hunt served this country well, but he is not at all interesting to listen to. He is a major distraction and proof that anyone can be plugged into that spot and make it through the afternoon. The greater on-air role from Sandy is another sign that Howie's show is running on fumes. All of the enablers out there need to face facts that the marginal talent that Howie ever had is now gone...The management team at RKO will never admit to their mistake retaining Howie and make a change for someone the better... I noticed last night the Sox game was on both RKO and EEI another brilliant marketing plan by J&J. I hope the same ads were carried by both stations ...I think not.

Queenie,

I think Avi Nelson is the best fill in; especially when Sadiki Kambon calls.

I can't believe people are crying for your 'hero' Howie. He's making close to $1,000,000 from RKO and he's acting so un-professional.

He won't be smiling when the contract runs out and the ratings are so bad no other station wants him (even if he is in the hall of fame). I guess by that time, he'll be retired in Florida with a big FU to his former listeners.

subman47, that's AWESOME! Talk about the proverbial 'Sticking it to the Man!' TTK must be laughing because they know Entercom got stuck holding the bag.

Though I'm thoroughly enjoying this piling onto Howie, would not every single one of us love to have his fat vacation time and his fat wallet? Methinks we are all just jealous of our fair-haired boy... sigh. I wish my husband could get more than 4 weeks off a year so we could enjoy our P-town condo more! Didja catch the story in yesterday's Globe about families running into orgies on the beaches?

Howie is not off this week. He gave a speech on Monday, which he mentioned on air several times. He's back on the air today.

If Howie "believed" WRKO was going to survive he would put in the time and effort. He DOES NOT owe it to them to try to save them single handedly. WRKO "choose" to force him to return via court, reap what you sow. This is just another bone headed WRKO management move that is making SaveWRKO a living wake. In the words of Monty Python "he's not quite dead yet...but he's almost dead".

Brian,

When and how could Rush change stations? Does WRKO own the rights for a period of time?
It will be a great spot for Marzelli to be over paid for and never listened to.

I don't think you can short a stock when it's in free-fall. You have to wait for an "uptick" first (unless they've changed the rules).

I think that it's safe to say that Howie was POd when the felon got the morning time slot. Since RKO didn't consider him he was going to look elsewhere. That's where TTK came into the picture. He probably would have done mornings on TTK and would've been happy doing it. But the brains at RKO in their brilliance, matched Howie's big contract from TTK and put the albatross in the morning slot. Either way RKO pays and pays and pays. And again Howie smiles his way to his local bank.

Brian,

Wendy Murphy just said (and I quote):

"What a piece of shit he is" referring to that Rep. Fagan.

I heard the full clip on the stream (not the air).

Classy. All Fagan is trying to do is to give every defendant the best defense possible. And that is what the constitution guarantees us.

Well, Brian you really have your finger on the pulse of what's happening at RKO. First you post about what Howie will be talking about during Monday's show. Opps Howie is on vacation this week. Has anyone ever bothered to count how many vacation days Howie has?

Opps!, Howie is not on vacation this week. He was only off on Monday so he could deliver a speech in Rhode Island.

I think it is time to work your inside WRKO sources your crack reporting skills have allowed you to develop over the years. Has the receptionist who used to tell you who was in the station's lobby moved on to another job?
