I've got the exclusive over at The Radio Equalizer.

Majority Leader Pissloser will use this for a call to support the fairness doctrine. Capitalism must be equally opposed with socialism!

Bri, has a libtalker ever even gotten a sniff of that much dough (maybe Olberman)?

And is Rush really that good (my husband forbids me from listening to him, saying he is an oxy-addicted, draft dodging, bloviating hypocrite).

That is really stunning money, but he would not get it if he did not provide a return on the investment. Correct? Boy, I'd move to Thailand or somewhere exotic if I had that kinda dough-re-mi!

Brian,

Good for Rush. He deserves every penny he can get as the man who single-handedly saved AM radio, in general, and talk radio, in particular.

Rush went against the conventional wisdom of the radio industry that held the firm belief that ALL talk radio had to be local and about local issues only. Virtually no PD or GM believed that Americans would want to discuss national politics on a nationwide basis. Rush's success has paved the way for countless other national talk hosts and re-invigorated local radio by pushing discussion of national politics even on small local shows. I am not ashamed to say that Rush's reshaping of the AM-radio format opened the door for my own opportunity in the radio business. In fact, I thank him publicly for it.

Perhaps the greatest contribution that Rush has made to American media is his breaking of the stranglehold TV and print "journalism" held in shaping public discourse and opinion. Talk radio today is a force that sways elections, cajoles politicians and informs the populace.

(Except on WRKO, because they suck).

I derive the most glee knowing that there are a TON of people just LIVID over this news.

"And is Rush really that good. . ."

He IS that good because somebody DID pay him THAT much.

He wasn't paid by the government, he was paid by somebody running a company. He doesn't broadcast on NPR with the government signing his check.

That alone makes him "really that good". You could make the point that he wasn't that good if he was paid by public money.

Rush deserves better than RKO because he IS that good.

Don't be surprised if he moves to CCU-owned WKOX-AM 1200 when they go 50,000 watts on Boston's doorstep.

WOW! Rush must transend language. To be carried by a spainish speaking station. (WKOX-AM 1200) I'm impressed. I guess he really IS worth that much if he can be played on both English and spainish speaking stations.

Whereas many conservative talkers such as Carr, Severin, Savage, even Hannity have peaked as some point in the past, Rush continues to maintain a well-crafted and insightful program. (Some of the humor pieces are hysterical)

(Pundit Review Radio guys on WRKO have lost something since they split up on both coasts.)

Two others that have gotten their act together in recent years are Glenn Beck and Michael Graham IMHO. There are probably others, but I just don't have the time to listen. Any suggestions?

Not a fan of the man and of his dittoheads but he's worth it if the company he works for is willing to pay it. They must be realizing a return on that investment.

Try podcasts of Bill Cunningham Sunday Nights, Mark Levin, John Batchelor, and Jackie Mason. These are all available for free. If you want to pay a few bucks per month, Bob Brinker and Savage are also worth it.

Thanks for the suggestions. I do tune in to Bill Cunningham on the internet on his flagship WLW. When he gets on a roll he's VERY good. Hits really hard. A good replacement on Sundays on WRKO since Drudge left the air.
