Ratings Cheating Scandal Still Making Headlines

While there's no
doubt WPRO would like to see an end to the onslaught of damning publicity, New England media outlets are not about to let go of a ratings-rigging scandal that features a well-known personality at its center.

Featuring an interview with Connecticut station owner John Fuller, ABC 6 in Providence has followed up on the story. Though Fuller makes a number of interesting points, I think he lets Arbitron off the hook too easily.

Given the level of public interest, why not provide more information on who they suspect was involved? Do they expect to take any additional actions against WPRO or any particular individuals?

In addition, the Boston Herald notes DePetro is still updating his MySpace page during his week off, noting his mood as "calm".

"Still making headlines"...well at least at this sorry site. Do you ever actually mention WRKO anymore? Change the site's name already, you hack!

Full of Baloney,

I believe there are at least a couple of other websites you could look at besides this one. I hear that the internet is getting pretty popular these days.

You know how you change the channel if there is a show on that you don't like? The same standard holds true here.

Now run along and stand under your bridge with the rest of the trolls.

I for one am sad to see this happen to John Depetro. I hope it is not true...if it is he isn't as clever as I thought he was.

I did like his show on WRKO. I knew that one day he'd be in trouble for his bombastic style but calling someone who was heavy and homosexual a "fat lesbian" was pretty ponderous (especially since Howie would always play the David Scondras cough (that sounded so much like something else) and cleverly made fun of J. Barrios and his ridiculous quest to ban children from "injesting a white, sticky substance"...Fluff, of course...he HE wasn't sanctioned...what Howie did was worse...I'm not against Howie at all (I like the humour)BUT it seemed unfair in contrast).

When I agreed with DePetro I enjoyed his passion but I always knew his canny way of antagonizing would get him canned. I liked how he'd let two opposing listeners fight it out though...no one does that anymore and I like the heated debate of listeners.

Those who answer trolls are even lower...

This is a sign in sheet for trolls. I realize
it is not nearly enough space. The first 500
to sign in receive a special name tag.

Skunky, you thought Depetro was "clever"? Are you serious? The guy is a class A scum bag and always has. He is a shady person and is not to be trusted. He is getting some pay back though. I mean, this is a guy who would throw his grandmother under the bus for a better ratings share. Hopefully he'll leave the industry for good.

Since this thread already has some weird postings, may I add this one off-topic for listeners seeking alternatives. It is a radically right wing streaming channel entitled

www.RepublicBroadcasting.org

How right wing? A main sponsor is Patriotic Survivalist Foods. Another more mainstream conservative alternative I have touted is:

www.townhall.com

FYI: I don't mecessarily endorse these sites, and I have no vested interests in them, other than they provide additional alternatives in Talk Radio.

Staffer, thanks. He strikes me as skunky. But my husband could not get enough of JD. No accounting for "taste" I guess.

Staffer, what is that hunky Reese really like? Such a hottie...

Celtic Frost,

Again with the gay-themed posts? We get it. You are gay (or you want all of us to think you are gay).

I don't feel the need to mention my personal life every time I post, why do you? Please, enough already. We're glad that you are gay! Great! Good for you! Hooray! Yippee! Bravo!
Please give it a rest.

Dear "BBGG is a goon",

I find it funny that the people who disparage this site find it necessary to monitor it and post comments on it. If this site is truly inconsequential, why are you even bothering to participate? Don't blame Brian. Just ignore us; we don't matter.
We have formed a small community of (for the most part) like minded radio listeners who are concerned over the horrendous mismanagement of one of America's greatest radio stations. Many of us are current or former broadcasters or have held other positions in the radio industry.
Obviously, we have touched a nerve with you. Perhaps our observations hit a little too close to home? Perhaps you know the truth but are in a position that requires you to "go with the flow" in order to keep a steady paycheck coming in?
Whatever the reason for your anger at this site, I hope you realize that this site is not the problem. The current state of WRKO's mismangement is the problem. We are merely pointing it out. We are nothing but the bearers of bad news. The news is that WRKO is a crap-fest run by imbeciles and backstabbers who would have a very difficult time making a living in ANY other field.

Radio management is like a pond - the scum always rises to the surface. Welcome to our swim party.

BBGG, nice one!

Sadly, the diaspora of former 'RKO listeners continues, and this is one place where we can get together and commiserate.

But then the haters come in, and you know the rest of the story. You have done this site a great service, BBGG, in telling that hater off.

Ah, to return to the days of Barbara, Joy, et. al. That would be great. Brian, given any more thought to a registration-based site? That would certainly keep the haters and the trolls away, for the most part.

Bill:

There should always be room for well reasoned dissent. Intolerance for alternative opinions, while a staple of the neo-con movement, is in fact un-American.

And that little "Gem" coming from the biggest fucking TROLL on this BLOG!!!

A registration-based site would be great Brian. Trolls like Celtic Frost would be kept at bay a little more. Unless of course Brian you like Trolls filling up your site with useless comments and running off visitiors?

Trolls that live in glass houses....gee,where's "Hugh Jass"

Brian, wait a sec: Depetro has a my space page? So sad. Who would read it, really?

Don't forget, Brian, that with a registration-only web site, professional IT sleuths / hackers like JSYK would not be able to ferret out the anonymizer-based IP addys of folks like me. That would prevent him from harassing us by "outing" us on this blog.

Oh, wait, JSYK was never able to fulfill that oft-made threat he made against me, was he? Never mind... JSYK is all bark, no bite I guess. I no longer need to shiver in my boots.
