Okay, I'll be the first to comment. This guy gets more slippery every day.
When is WRKO going to put The Felon out of OUR misery?
His show is absolutely unlistenable and it is clear that even he knows this because he is actively lining up a gig for the future with his lobbying efforts.
Come on Coffee Boy - grow a pair and put this sick dog down already. (I promise Howie will only laugh about it on air for 2 or 3 weeks, tops)
This in from AllAccess:
President/CEO DAVID FIELD said, "I am pleased to report that ENTERCOM achieved strong growth in both free cash flow and adjusted net income per share during the quarter. In the face of difficult and deteriorating general economic conditions that have significantly impacted earnings from a broad range of consumer-facing businesses, I am also very pleased by ENTERCOM's second-quarter operating results. Third-quarter results will reflect declining business fundamentals, but looking ahead, radio broadcasting is well positioned for resumed growth. Radio listenership in the U.S. reached an all-time record this past year and radio is the most cost-effective major advertising medium in the nation."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA (GASP) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Tom Finneran will get his ratings turned around any minute now and we are going to set the radio business ON FIRE! Whoo Hoo!
ZZZZZ. You're a bum,WRKO is best ignoring you and this insignificant site
Freltic Cost,
If this site is so insignificant, why are you lurking around?
This site exists because there are people with real knowledge of the radio industry who are sick of the current state of Boston radio and the inept "management" that causes this dysfunction to continue.
You can't be suggesting by your comments that you truly believe that WRKO is functioning in a better operating model than ever before, can you?
Let's have another look at Mr. Field's own thoughts, shall we?
And I quote, "...Radio listenership reached an all-time record this past year and radio is the most cost-effective major advertising medium in the nation."
Well, if those words from Mr. Field are to be believed, does it not stand to reason that the current state of WRKO's ratings and "management" are even more horrifying than they appear? If, as Mr. Field points out, radio is the most cost-effective advertising medium in the nation AND listenership is at an all-time high, what is the excuse for the bull#@%& going on over at WRKO?
No one in their right mind would spend their hard earned advertising dollars on a station that offers such poor programming. There is The Rush Limbaugh Show and there is The Howie Carr Show and that is it. WRKO gets a slight bump from the Red Sox but what happens if the Sox falter down the stretch and miss the playoffs? What then? WRKO is hanging by a thread, programming wise, but the "management is too proud to admit it because they are incapable of pointing the finger of blame at themselves. I don't think I would be going around trumpeting what a great value radio advertising is when my stations haven't only crashed to earth but have cratered and seem to be actively burrowing even deeper.
If they were a respectable outfit, do you really think they would let Howie openly mock their declining stock price on the air, slam the Morning Felon every chance he gets and speak wistfully about a future when he no longer works for WRKO?
The only thing around here that is "insignificant" is the performance of a formerly great radio station.
Well said, NHRadiofan. All true.
Brian,do you think Finneran is in the closet? I bet he's mammoth!
NH, are you in a log cabin up there with
no windows or cold beer?? All this "knowledge"
is making you coo-coo.
Celtic foam,
No, we have windows AND cold beer. We even have indoor plumbing and electricity (in the larger towns). No TV yet - that's why I know so much about radio.
You got it right, though. I'm just a bitter, backwoods bumpkin who can't understand them big city folks and their big city ways.
Look, a moose!
