WRKO's Revealing Debate Plans

As a host
, want to know where you stand with station management? Promotional events often provide real clues.

And in tonight's WRKO debate coverage, the suits have laid their cards right on the table.

The station has scheduled a pre-debate show using none other than Todd Feinburg, apparently back as a fill-in, as its primary host.

Where's The Felon? Or "Reese Hopkins"? They aren't participating, though Howie Carr will join Todd during the second pre-debate hour.

Instead, "Hopkins" is
hosting some kind of "viewing party" at Shoe central. Snacks and drinks (hopefully non-alcoholic) will be served.

This type of on-air event is normally utilized to showcase a station's key talent. The Felon's omission is not a good sign. Was the opportunity turned down, or was he simply not included?

As for "Hopkins" (or whatever today's claim may be regarding his real name), why is he relegated to this second-banana role in favor of a fill-in host?

Yes, the hand has been revealed.

Brian, darling, Tommy Tuneout said that he has Sox-Yankees ducats for this evening (although the weather will likely preclude that).

I imagine a conversation something like this:
J: Mistah Speakah, can you host the debate show, pretty please with sugar on top?
T: Eff off, it's not in my multi-year contract!
J: (meekly) Okay, we'll ask Todd...
T: And my boots need polishing, too, Jason, so snap to it! Plus, Julie's "coffee" is running low!
J: Yes, sir, Mistah Speakah, sir. Right away, sir.

I think the likely reason that the Felon is not involved is the presence of Howie. Naturally, 'RKO has to have Howie be a part of the pre-debate programming, so that would seem to rule out the Felon. You couldn't have both for obvious reasons.

Tommy's show with Todd is pretty decent political radio. Better than Scotto or Depetro...come on admit it Brian.

Does "Reese's" "friend" have anything to tell us tonight?

Howie Carr live on the air right now with "Reese Hopkins," "graduate of Fordham," hanging out with the lobby level crowd (hopefully "Reese Hopkins" was properly frisked by the lobby security when he arrived at Guest Street this morning and in subsequent re-entries) sounds about right.

Reminds me of February 5, 2008. "Reese Hopkins," who almost no one in the room even knew, was left downstairs to keep an eye on those of us who attended, and as soon as Howie Carr entered the room, "Reese" was stopped in mid-sentence as the listeners turned their heads away from "Reese" toward Howie Carr and discussion with Howie.

What's really in that Coca-Cola can tonight, "Reese?"

"Reese Hopkins" finally interacts with a caller at 8:35pm. He's now pretending to know foreign policy, specifically when it comes to Pakistan.

No racial slurs yet!

8:42pm: "Reese Hopkins" is thrown out of the studio back downstairs to the lobby.

"Reese" gets 14 minutes on the air so far in almost 2 hours of radio.

"Reese Hopkins" is now taking drink orders at the Stockyard.

Still no sign of "Reese Hopkins" on the air again as of 10:51pm.

Is he unable to make it back across the street from the Stockyard?

The answer is simple. The Felon has to be up very early for his radio show. He can't so these late night events.

I was listening online and at 7 'RKO went to a replay of Reese's show. The topic was detail officers. I made it through about 15 minutes before turning it off. That fake hearty laugh of his is as painful as his ignorance of the issues.

Joe, Me thinx that is called "stalking"!

Posted by: Jim from Darkton at September 28, 2008 09:27 AM

No, it's called "listening."

Posted by: Joe from Brighton at September 28, 2008 01:02 PM

Joe you left your "listening" skills back
in first grade. Nobody seems to be interested
in your venomous diatribe.

Posted by: Jim from Darkton at September 29, 2008 09:07 AM

Then why did you comment on it?

Is this another "friend" of "Reese?"

Posted by: Joe from Brighton at September 29, 2008 01:30 PM

He is my friend as long as he is buying!!
NEW RULE!!

The steak tips were good, as was the chicken, ziti and brocolli. But, where were all the big mouths with their "cameras in tow"?
